  • A good read!

The Help is a great book. What a good storyteller the author is! And if you've seen the movie you will hear the characters speaking as you read it. I read it out loud to the person I care for and they love it too.Author does such a good job making all the characters so 3 dimensional. I remember reading it took the author a long time to find a literary agent to represent this book. I'm sure glad she didn't give up because it is a real part in our social history and it is good to read it. It is also good to read how people see something wrong and decide to speak out.

  • An awesome way to get a magnificent book

Oh my stars, if you read just one book this year, red this one! I grew up in Missouri in the 50s and 60s and it rang as true as could be. We were Southern, not the deep South, but we had and still have so many of the same issues as they dealt with in the book. True, it was written by a white woman, but she lived it and she, like so many in the book, was raised by the African American woman who worked for her family. Some of caviled at her use of dialect when writing in the voice of one of the maids, but that dialect was true to the time and I did not feel it was in any sense demeaning. Her women are smart and strong and believable, particularly as they struggle within the constraints of their time and culture. You will grieve at what they go through, but ultimately, you will stand ...

  • A great thought provoking novel

I first saw the movie when it was released, and read a library copy of the book it is based on. It's a book that I'm now enjoying re-reading. It's a great fictional description of life between Black housemaids and their white employers c. 1960.

  • A must read

The book was a summer reading assignment for my son. I started to read it while he was finishing his other assigned book. The Help was so good that once my son started reading it, I would wait for my chance to have it when he put it down. We were both drawn into the book's characters and found the writing style to be wonderful.

  • An intriguing snapshot of race and class relationships

I've read this several years ago but liked it well enough to send this copy to a friend.
