Magic Pengel: A very original, shallow game
In Magic Pengel you play as a "doodler" who participates in doodler tournament to prove to the world who is the best doodler ever. Also, you end up stopping some evil empire along the way. Pros: The game's look appears to draw some of its inspiration from the famous Jap. animation creator Miyazaki. The drawing mechanics are nicely done and by the end of the game you'll be able to create just about any creature that you can imagine. These creatures will also automatically get animated by the game. Cons: The game is very shallow. You only have a handful of areas to visit, this includes 1 town, 2 arenas, and your home (and 1 secret area). The voice overs are pretty cheesy, and the graphics look like they'd be right at home on N64. But where the game really falls flat is the combat system! ... Your creatures battle each other using the same concept as Rock/Paper/Scissors. Attack beats Block, Block beats Magic, Magic beats Attack, and you also get 'charge' which is the weakest. The battle starts with you picking either Block/Attack or Magic. You have a chance of either winning or loosing on your first turn, but this is based purely on luck. The combat system is very shallow.

Despite being a game targeted for kids, even adults can enjoy this game. At the time, my nephew was obsessed with Armored Core so I knew about Agetec, and being interested in the gameplay, I decided to give Pengel a chance. I'm happy to say that I'm glad I did. In Pengel, you create beings out of drawings called "Doodles" and use them in battle. And yes, the game has a plot, and thankfully not a terrible one. In a nutshell, here is the storyline: you're an outsider who comes to town that is under tyrannical rule, and you end up helping the underground resistance along with your new friends. I won't say anymore, since I don't want to spoil it. I absolutely love the drawing system. Basically you can create almost anything or anyone you want, from dragons to robots to even yourself. Note that you first need to win tournaments in order to unlock specific parts (wings, weapons, etc.). What colors you use, size of the parts, and parts themselves also affect your creation's stats and abilities. The battle system is identical to an RPG in the way that you use specific buttons for certain commands and your Doodles even gain experience. The difference is in the combat system, which is like a game of rock-paper-scissor. This sounds simplistic, and for the most part it is, but this doesn't mean the game is a pushover. The colorful graphics definitely fit the game, and they aren't an eyesore to look at either. The Doodles look and move great (for the most part). The voice-acting is not bad as well as the sound effects and music. The game does have flaws. One of them is the loading screen, which pops up every time you move to a different area- this is not a major problem though. I also wished that you could go to more places other than just the town, home, and arena. Overall, this is one of the most fun and unique games that I have ever played.

My /favorite/ Game...
ok, I fell in love with this game a while back. It plays on my creative and childish side so it's perfect. I lost in in my Divorce and so My Boyfriend got it for me as a surprise. I love Him Sooooo much, and the game is awesome.
