Excellent book
What an excellent book. A complete journey into the thoughts and intelligence and imagination of Ambrose Bierce. The stories can be read over and over and are timeless. I actually saw a story on film in school when I was about 12 years of age and it was so profound that it stayed with me. 62 years of age now, I discover the story was written by Ambrose Bierce.' An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' is also included in this wonderful book.What an excellent book. A complete journey into the thoughts and intelligence and imagination of Ambrose Bierce. Great Anthology!
This anthology of Ambrose Bierce's short stories is an outstanding volume. Bierce was a prolific author whose work in under-appreciated by readers. In addition to the stories with war themes there are a number of interesting borderline horror and fantasy entries. Of course, "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" is featured as is "Horseman in the Sky." Many thanks to purchase this excellent addition to my home library for a modest price. This book contains horror stories as well as Tall Tales & Civil War stories. Author Kurt Vonnegut once stated that he considered 'Occurrence at Owl Creek' the GREATEST AMERICAN short story, and a work of flawless American genius! His writings of the Civil war is an eye opener to show us ALL wars in the end are exactly the same with the exact consequences . The only thing that cahnges is the style of weapons and the century. You can't do better than the complete short story works of Ambrose Bierce. A must for any scholarly researcher of Bierce, the Civil War, or that period of history in general. (Highly recommended by a retired teacher and published writer.)
