Synopsis
America's bestselling guide to caring for a baby is now better than ever: announcing a two-years-in-the-making, cover-to-cover, line-by-line revision and update of the 6.9-million-copy What to Expect the First Year, the bible for taking care of a newborn through the milestone of his or her first birthday. The Second Edition incorporates the most recent developments in pediatric medicine. Every question and answer have been revisited, and in response to letters from readers, dozens of new QandAs have been added. The book is more reader-friendly than ever, with updated cultural references, and the new material brings more in-depth coverage to issues such as newborn screening, home births and the resulting at-home newborn care, vitamins and vaccines, milk allergies, causes of colic, sleep problems, SIDS, returning to work, dealing with siblings, weaning, sippy cups, the expanded role of the father, and much more. An updated cover and all-new black-and-white line illustrations complement the fresher book with a fresher look., With over 11 million copies in print, What to Expect: The First Year , now in a completely revised third edition, is the world's best-selling, best-loved guide to the instructions that babies don't come with, but should. And now, it's better than ever. Every parent's must-have/go-to is completely updated. Keeping the trademark month-by-month format that allows parents to take the potentially overwhelming first year one step at a time, First Year is easier-to-read, faster-to-flip-through, and new-family-friendlier than ever--packed with even more practical tips, realistic advice, and relatable, accessible information than before. Illustrations are new, too. Among the changes: Baby care fundamentals--crib and sleep safety, feeding, vitamin supplements--are revised to reflect the most recent guidelines. Breastfeeding gets more coverage, too, from getting started to keeping it going. Hot-button topics and trends are tackled: attachment parenting, sleep training, early potty learning (elimination communication), baby-led weaning, and green parenting (from cloth diapers to non-toxic furniture). An all-new chapter on buying for baby helps parents navigate through today's dizzying gamut of baby products, nursery items, and gear. Also new: tips on preparing homemade baby food, the latest recommendations on starting solids, research on the impact of screen time (TVs, tablets, apps, computers), and "For Parents" boxes that focus on mom's and dad's needs. Throughout, topics are organized more intuitively than ever, for the best user experience possible., Some things about babies, happily, will never change. They still arrive warm, cuddly, soft, and smelling impossibly sweet. But how moms and dads care for their brand-new bundles of baby joy has changed and now, so has the new-baby bible. Announcing the completely revised third edition of "What to Expect the First Year." With over 10.5 million copies in print, "First Year" is the world s best-selling, best-loved guide to the instructions that babies don t come with, but should. And now, it s better than ever. • Good book to have in your baby library

This is a good overall book for the new parent. It talks about nursing issues, what the doctor will check each month at the baby's visit etc. This is not a book which tells you exactly what the baby should be up to each month developementally. I was looking for a book that would tell us how far the baby could see at 2 weeks old. The distance he could see at a month etc. This book barely touches upon it but it is still a valuable book to have for the new mother first time around.

    • What to expect the first year

picking up where the first book (What to expect when you're axpecting) left off, i love how this book handles every issue and answers every question a first time parent has ever wondered!... the way its written is very unique, covers every topic like ur the one asking the question and answers it very specific and descriptive.. with everything from month to month info and updates on ur baby's development to home remedies and feeding baby, selecting physician, even first aid!.. A MUST for new parents, single parents, even adoptive parents!

    • What to Expect the First Year

What to Expect the First Year - even if you think you know better. By the end of the 7 month it is the time to start thinking about what to do after arrival. It will be a wonderful and for shure busy time. If you think you can read and learn on the job forget it. It is the right to NOW to go and meet all your questions and fears NOW. And there area a lot of them. As an expecting father I can reassure you, if you are a man and you are expecting you MUST read it before the birth not after. Good luck and have much fun, it is the best and worst time in your life, enjoy it!!!

    • What to Expect the First Year

Very good tool for first time moms!!! Has a month-by month detailed description of everything to expect, and how the baby should be developing. Also has common ailments that you might come across and how to deal with them. The What to Expect series are great. I read the pregnancy one, and also plan to purchase the toddler years one.

    • Great Buy

I love the way it answers so many of my questions. It provides me with resources so that I don't have to run to the doctor for every little question. It has saved me money and time in medical expenses. It lets me know what is normal and what is not for each phase of my child's development. It is written in a clear and understandable way, and the author does not push any one view, but rather gives the facts up front. It is a great buy for any new parent.
