Elvis Presley stars as Pacer Burton, son of a white father (John McIntire) and Native American mother (Dolores del Rio) who finds his loyalties tested in a war of attrition between a fierce Indian tribe, the Kiowas, and a group of racist white settlers on the Texas frontier in 1870. Although his parents attempt to remain outside the fray, his father is eventually killed in an Indian attack on the settlement. A white man, enraged over the Indian attacks, kills Pacer's mother. Shunned by white society after the Indian attacks, Pacer elects to fight on the side of the Kiowas while his brother, Clint (Steve Forrest), stays with the settlers. When Clint rides into the Kiowa camp alone and kills their chief to avenge his father's murder, Pacer fights off the entire tribe to protect his brother, and Clint barely escapes with his life. After Pacer's girl, Roslyn Pierce (Barbara Eden), has tended to Clint's severe wounds, she's unsuccessful in trying to stop him from going off to try to save his brother's life. Presley gives his finest performance as the sensitive Pacer, supported by an excellent cast in what is likely his best film. The strong, uncompromising script on the tragic cost of racism is superbly directed by Don Siegel.

flaming wonderful
This movie is one of Elvis Presley's last serious movies. It does'nt matter if you like Elvis or not this is a very powerful movie about a young man who is half white half Indian. He and his mother are looked down on by both sides. The mother is married to a white man who also has a white son. People are respectful to the white son, but mean and hateful to the mixed son. the relationship between the two son is very touching. the love that they show for each other is loving. But society wants to tear them apart. the towns people are just determined to break the will of the mixed son. the mixed son loves both sides of his heritage but everyone else wants to make him choose between the two. great movieThis movie is one of Elvis Presley's last serious movies. First released in 1960, "Flaming Star" features Elvis Presley as a half-breed named Pacer Burton, whose white father (John McIntire) and Indian mother (Dolores Del Rio) are caught within the middle of a savage, relentless struggle on their homestead in Texas. Along with his half-brother, Clint (played by Steve Forrest), the four of them live a typical life on the Texas frontier. Life soon becomes anything but typical when a nearby tribe of Kiowa begin raiding neighboring homesteads. Pacer soon finds himself caught between the two worlds, part of both but belonging to neither. Taking place in the late 1800's, this is a masterfully produced motion picture that has so much to offer the viewer. Don Siegel was probably one of the best directors the King ever worked with, and he draws a quietly ... A very young Barbara Eden (a few years before the sitcom "I Dream Of Jeannie") plays Roslyn Pierce, a lady who befriends the Burton family. Although Elvis recorded 4 songs for the film, only 2 of them were included; the title song, heard over the opening credits, and "Cane And A High Starch Collar", performed shortly therafter. This was the second Elvis film from 20th Century Fox; this DVD shows the movie in its original widescreen Cinemascope presentation. Elvis would follow this film with another dramatic role in "Wild In The Country". This is one of his finest screen efforts!

FLAMING STAR DVD
Growing up this was one my favorite elvis movies, I guess because it was'nt as fake as his other roles. I had been looking for this movie on dvd for awhile I knew it was on vhs but could never find it on disc. Now if I can just find the steve reeves movie " the blue rose " my collection will be complete in the classic area of my movie storage. Jake

Rare movie, can't find it anywhere on line to watch free. Very sad and moving movie. The DVD played beautifull. The picture /sound was crystal clear.A must watch.
