The son of a musician, Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) tried at first to enter a monastery before engaging the skills that made him the foremost scientist of his day. Though he never left Italy, his inventions and discoveries were heralded around the world. "Galileo's Daughter" is more a biography of the father than the daughter, but the reader certainly learns a great deal about both. Through surviving letters, the reader "sees" the wonderful relationship between father and daughter and learns how science and church actually influenced and controlled their lives. History books describe Galileo's scientific work and his interactions with the church, but those books tell only a fraction of his important and fascinating life. Galileo's Daughter
I bought this book for a book club that meets once a month. It was recommended highly by others in the group. When I picked it up I thought it was going to be a historical fiction novel, but soon discovered it was a history biography about Galileo and his discoveries. What holds the book together is his letters from his daughter and the warm relationship that he has with her. Without these letters, I'm not sure I would have finished the novel. It is not an easy read, but it left me satisfied at the end of the book. You'll love it if you are interested in scientific details, the early church, astronomy, or philosophy. Loved the price!
I was overjoyed when I saw a price like seventy-five cents, who would not? I ordered later than I should have, so I can not blame it coming three days later than I hoped on the sender. Thank you so much... even if the book was slightly boring. Such is education.

Galileo's Daughter
Very Interesting facts in the life of the infamous Astronomer. His fascination is clearly explained through letters to his daughter & persuit of his great curiosity! Good read!
