À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Collectors are bound to love The Encyclopedia of Early American and Antique Sewing Machines, Third Edition. This brand new third edition now contains 100 new detailed photographs, bringing the total to almost 600. Most are in color, with a large number of machines that have not appeared before. Prices, text, and rarity indicators have been updated. The material on vintage sewing machines has been greatly expanded, and a new appendix with a selection of photos of vintage machines has been added. The book traces the history and development of the sewing machine industry from 1800 to after 1900. Almost all known U.S.manufacturers of sewing machines up to 1875 (and several beyond) are highlighted: Singer, Wheeler & Wilson, Shaw & Clark, Weed, Howe, and Holly, to name just a few. Do you own your great aunt's antique treadle sewing machine? This book will identify and give the history of the manufacturer. Specific information is provided on restoring antique sewing machines, and toy sewing machines are also given coverage. This title is the standard reference for early American sewing machines.

Reviews
I was looking forward to buying and reading this book because I purchased the first two editions and thoroughly enjoyed them. Even my wife, who does not totally share my interest in sewing machines, enjoyed this book. I really liked the more detailed photographs of these early sewing machines and the abundance of color photographs were right on. Everything about this carefully researched book is first class and a great deal for the money...-James W. Slaten

  • Book for the Collector of early machines

This is a very athoratative book dealing with the development & early production of the Sewing Machine in America. It primarily deals with machines from the 1850-1880 years, with some info up through around 1925. It is full of good quality color illustrations of most machines made during this early 30 yr period as well as many patent models. A very reasonable price for the information contained therein. I consider this a must for anyone having an interest in the early American Sewing Machine, whether an active collector or just the desire to know more about them & perhaps luck upon an early example someday. This book will give one the ability to identify most any early American Machine they are apt to encounter. There are other books available which are better for the 1880-1940 period & ...

  • Great book when you get it for less 50 bucks

I have 3 of Carter Bays books, and this was the last version of it. Great book and photos, but I I would not pay 75 to 100+ some ask for it. Keep an eye out and snag it when you find one that is less then 50 bucks!

  • Excellent Choice

I LOVE all of the beautiful pictures that are included in this wonderful book, not to mention all of the detailed information that is given. I recently purchased two antique treadle sewing machines, and I wanted to find out more information about my machines, as well as, other antique machines, which is the main reason that I purchased this book. As soon as I received the book in the mail, I knew that my purchase was an EXCELLENT choice. I would highly recommend this Encyclopedia to anyone interested in sewing machines and/or antiques. You won't be disappointed.

  • Excellent reference

While this does not cover all machines during the era, it covers most and is well illustrated and informative including history. There is much more info out there ready to be consolidated, and perhaps this author(s) will add a second volume one day. I recommend this book and I have 5 machines, 2 are OLD, pre-1900's and 3 "modern".

  • Great information!

The contents are exactly what he was looking for so with that being said the contents we phenomenal! A must have for any vintage sewing machine collector and restoration person.
