Linda Ronstadt commands the country-rock wheel!
When I was growing up, Linda Ronstadt ruled the Top 40 radio stations like she was born to it! DJs would nestle a Ronstadt single between some Motown or some Fleetwood Mac, even country stations could sneak in some Ronstadt, because beyond her distinctive voice she had unmatched musicality: her choice of material was uncannily tactile. HEART LIKE A WHEEL was her 8th studio album and her 5th solo album; this is the album where she strung her musical gifts together like a diamond necklace. Songs from Paul Anka (It Doesn't Matter Anymore), Phil Everly (When Will I Be Loved) and Hank Williams (I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You) blend seamlessly with newer tracks into a remarkable soundtrack of residence in the Heartbreak Hotel. Although she had left Capitol Records she owed them one recording and it was her breakthrough Lp--bet Capitol is sorry they didn't hang on to her. With #1 hits like You're No Good" and "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You" with Emmylou Harris and the #2 Everly Brother's remake "When Will I Be Loved", this minor masterpiece catapulted Ronstadt to stardom and was the first of her 8 back to back platinum Lps (a feat no other singer has topped). Every song is a gem. One time lover and now friend J.D. Southern's "Faithless Love" is a masterpiece of understatement. "Keep Me From Blowing Away" will do just that and the hit (Buddy Holly) "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" will keep the listener replaying this disc. This recording showed Linda's promise of better things to come. A pioneer of ... One Of The Best Linda Ronstadt Albums Ever Made
This is a classic that stands the test of time. This album has the torchy first song, "You're No Good," then, "It doesn't Matter Anymore" sort of speaks for itself. I bought this CD because of the next song, "Faithless Love," a rare J.D. Souther song that is just amazing. Also there's the early EmmyLou Harris duet on "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You)" which is thrilling. The album ends with the haunting version of James Taylor's, "You Can Close Your Eyes" when I'm gone.This is a classic that stands the test of time. Must Have If You Are a Fan.
Anyone who is a fan will love this CD. It has two of her mega-hits but the song I bought it for was "Faithless Love". Great Album.
