À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Based on both the short story by John W. Campbell, Jr. and the 1951 film produced by Howard Hawks, THE THING is John Carpenter's stunning masterpiece of horror. A group of weary scientists enduring the winter in an isolated camp deep in Antarctica chance upon an alien spacecraft buried in the ice. Near the strange craft is the body of an alien being, frozen solid. Thinking they have made the find of a lifetime, the scientists bring the alien body back to camp and thaw it out. The alien awakens, not in the best of moods, and proceeds to take over the identities of the scientists, one by one, body and all. Helicopter pilot MacCready (Kurt Russell) must lead the surviving men in discovering who among them is human and who is not and how they can destroy "the thing" before it takes them all and moves on to the heavily populated mainland and the rest of humanity. Rob Bottin supplies the awe-inspiring special effects of the creature in its many, ever-changing forms. The effects were groundbreaking at the time and hold up flawlessly over the passing years. But Carpenter does not rely solely on special effects, utilizing his spectacular cast, which includes Wilford Brimley and Richard Dysart, to create three dimensional characters enduring an unthinkable situation. The score from Ennio Morricone is understated, yet increases the tense mood tenfold. Shooting was difficult and done in below freezing conditions, but despite the discomfort the cast and crew produced a truly terrifying film that will stand the test of time. THE THING is surely one of Carpenter's definitive films and a true horror classic.

  • Got that old school suspense feel to it

They just don't make 'em like this anymore. This movie has that Old school suspense feel to it. The music plays a huge part in the feel of the movie and instead of loads of special effects , the actors actually act the part to pull you in. Definitely a classic movie that is worthy of adding to your collection. I remember watching this movie years ago when I was much younger and the memories of it have stayed with me over the years. I couldn't wait to get it on HD DVD and see it again. Definitely has that 80's movie feel to it , but in my opinion , the 80's brought us some of the best music and movies ever created. A really good movie to add to your suspense collection.

  • All-Time Horror/Sci-Fi CLASSIC !! Stunning in HD !!

Super cast. Would have been cooler if females were part of the squad but that was remedied in the 2011 PREQUAL. All-Time Horror/Sci-Fi CLASSIC !! Stunning in HD !!

  • About time, too.

They did it right. No overdone artifacting, no shadow-hiss and no wavering on stable shots. Well, not as much as usual, anyway, and less than most HD conversions. The audio is kept clean and moves appropriately. It was great seeing this movie in such clarity and with such sound. I waited a long time and it was worth it. If you expected a review of the movie, then... Nearly as good as the original! Nearly. Changes were made to keep up with a more modern look, and those changes made sense and fit well. The new characters held their own and the acting was excellent! The special effects were ground breaking in their day and hold up even today along with the best. We lose the vegetable factor of the original for a more viral/microbiological standpoint, and again, the change works well. If you ...

  • The Thing (HD-DVD) Release

Classic John Carpender at his best! Baby boomers, you've all seen this movie on VHS, or Standard DVD I'm sure. Freaky! For The HD-DVD re-release you are in for a treat! Very Pristine HD digital transfer. Looks as if the movie was released in this Day and age(2008). This is surprising if you consider that the same master was used for VHS and standard DVD. Colours are rich and deep, contrast is very-very good. It should prove to be an enjoyable viewing experience for those who have seen this before, and newcomers alike. I have not watched the special features, so I cannot comment, But you usually buy a movie to watch.......well, the movie itself! Wait for a dark, windy, snowy night, grab a bag of popcorn, hide the dog in the bedroom, and turn out the lights! vyper883
