À propos de ce produit

Product Information

General Chuck Yeager, the greatest test pilot of them all -- the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound . . .the World War II flying ace who shot down a Messerschmitt jet with a prop-driven P-51 Mustang . . .the hero who defined a certain quality that all hotshot fly-boys of the postwar era aimed to achieve: the right stuff. Now Chuck Yeager tells his whole incredible life story with the same wide-open, full throttle approach that has marked his astonishing career. What it was really like enaging in do-or-die dogfights over Nazi Europe. How after being shot over occupied France, Yeager somehow managed to escape. The amazing behind-the-scenes story of smashing the sound barrier despite cracked ribs from a riding accident days before. The entire story is here, in Yeager's own words, and in wondeful insights from his wife and those friends and colleagues who have known him best. It is the personal and public story of a man who settled for nothing less than excellence, a one-of-a-kind portrait of a true American hero. From the Paperback edition.

  • GREAT BOOK!

I just finished reading "YEAGER" yesterday & enjoyed it very much. It is a glimpse into his personal life as well. I found that interesting & that part, especially made me smile. Glennis, his wife, was a "stayer" & sacrificed much, though even in those many circumstances she remained herself & a great woman in her right. We should be grateful to her; I'm sure Chuck Yeager was. As he puts it, he was indeed a very fortunate man, to be born at the right time and in the right place, but for a great partner in life. Though I'm sure he was very ego ridden generally and obsessive about flying that is what made him and helped him do what he had to do in the line of duty. I call it "Divine Confidence". His work in the Air Force and for our country, I found to be MOST wonderful! He had what ...

  • A great man, a great American.

I read this book when it was first published about thirty years ago. This great American recently died and I am looking forward to reading it again.

  • best book I've read in a while...

This is the best book I've read in a long time I gave my last one away to a friend this is just a repurchase. Chuck Yeager grew up in an era will never be able to retain again. He was a Pioneer in his days, an outstanding pilot, and an outstanding physical specimen. He took Muroc, then gave it to us in the record books! awesome read.
