Product Information

Sid Meier's classic computer game Pirates! can now be enjoyed on the Sega Genesis with revamped graphics and music in MicroProse's Pirates! Gold. The game offers you the chance to play the role of a pirate in six different game scenarios or careers, each beginning with a different time period in history.<br><br>Choose from the following: 1560s' The Silver Empire, 1600s' Merchants and Smugglers, 1620s' The New Colonists, 1640s' War for Profit, 1660s' The Buccaneer Heroes, or 1680s' The Pirates' Sunset. You can also select your nationality, difficulty level and one of five special abilities your character will possess, including fencing, navigation, gunnery, medicine, or wit and charm.<br><br>After typing in your family name, you'll have to first win a duel on board a ship before you can start sailing from an overhead view of the Spanish Main. You're then left to your own devices on how to play the game. Earn titles by fighting for kings of different nations, battle ports, attack and acquire bigger ships, hire crew members, sell goods or even search for buried treasure.<br><br>Besides starting a new career, you can assume command of one of six famous expeditions, practice sword fighting or view the Hall of Fame of top pirates. Up to four games can be saved to cartridge, so you can resume your buccaneering whenever you feel the urge to pillage and plunder. Just make sure you have enough rations to last your trip and gold to divide among your crew!

    In my opinion, the best Genesis game!

    During the 1990's I had a Sega Genesis and not a Super Nintendo. I played a lot of NHL 94 with friends, but the best single player Genesis game was Pirates Gold. What is better then being a pirate? This game has action, strategy, and Rpg elements and that is what seperates it from the other games. You can hack and slash or trade goods. You can choose to be allied with the French, English, Dutch or Spanish. You can choose different time periods. You can upgrade your ship, take over someone else's ship, or do both. I have the Xbox version and I still like this game better. Do yourself a favor and play this game..it is great old school fun.

    A Truly Older Gem

    I have to admit I still turn on my old Sega just to play this game for awhile. Graphics are definately outdated compared to todays "standards". For those willingly to look past perfect pixelation of every inch of there t.v.'s this is a fantastic game. It will grab to up with sea battles, recruiting, plundering towns, sword fighting, and even courting Mayors daughter's. Very well rounded game for its time with so many different styles of game play in one package. Again cannot applaud this games content enough for its day. Would recommend to anyone who has an old system looking for a great game to play. RPG/Action/Strategy. The Cons... Sailing against the wind is a pain in the rump, but so is it in real life. The only other con I can think of is the graphics I stated in the begining. Enjoy ...

    Pirate sim at its best, the sandbox of Caribbean seas.

    This is an incredible game. Very few sandbox strategy games were made for genesis and thus this is one of the rares, and a well done one I might add. The experience you'll get with this game really enthusiasms your imagination, as you start out as nobody in the caribbean seas and work your way up in the ranks of fortune and happiness of life. Yes, life, as you start young, you'll have to make whatever it takes to live your life in full. Capture ships, get promoted by nations, marry, find your long lost relatives, discover ancient treasures, deal with your crew's mutinies, capture pirates, steal the treasure fleet and silver train from spanish armada, etc.. you can do all. The very best of the game is to see what you become when you retire from this life. Either a drunk bum or nation's ...

    If you like a different game every time this is the game for you!! You get to sword fight and find lost treasure/family members!!! Non stop exciting fun for all!!!!

    A MUST HAVE FOR ANY VIDEO GAME COLLECTOR

    I loved this game as a child, and I still love this game, to this day. I found myself a few years ago searching for old games to download, and this is definitely one of the first ROMs I searched for. Finding a nearly NEW copy, complete with MAP MANUAL and CASE, it wasn't a hard decision to make. I immediately purchased this classic gem, and still find myself plundering all night and well into the early morning hours.
