Product Information

Vatical Entertainment and Hudson have combined to bring EGG: Elemental Gimmick Gear, or EGG, to the Sega Dreamcast. The storyline of the game focuses on the main character, Leon, and his travels. At the outset we learn that he has existed for over 5,000 years in a deep sleep inside of the E.G.G. When the adventure begins, Leon is awoken from his deep sleep and is completely unaware of his past. Scientists gather together in this futuristic world in order to help Leon learn of his past for they are even more curious than he himself is. Characters that Leon meets throughout his journey include Luckie, an orphan leader of children; Selen, the assistant to the Doctor; and Doctor Yam, who has studied Leon all his life. The actual game entails walking from land to land, encountering shops, people and villages along the way. Occasionally you will come across an enemy that will result in a real time battle. When encountering larger boss enemies the screen will actually zoom in and a real time battle will take place with only the two characters on the screen. These battles more resemble a fighting game than an adventure game. After talking to townspeople and visiting various shops, as well as defeating enemies, certain items will become available. These items can be viewed at the in-game item inventory and are divided up into three categories: power-up items, equipment items and elemental items. Power-up items allow for various attributes to be increased such as hit points or strength. When stronger it is possible to actually move rocks out of the way or cross over creeks. Equipment and elemental items allow for the use of flame and ice stones as well as the addition of energy points that allow for a longer life span. There is also money that can be collected after battles and used to purchase items with at various shops. There are only a few options in the game, none of which affect play in a major way. The options include selecting text speed, configuring controller and selecting background color of the message windows. Other than these options there is only the option to start a new game or load an already saved game.

Great game
Game works good as expected up until half way done with the first dungeon it freezes on the loading screen. Looked at the disc and one side of the outer edge of it is deeply scratched so that could be the problem. Other than that minor flaw, it was a great buy and i could just resurface it when i get the chance. 4 out of 5 stars and would buy from seller again.

There is a desire to get moving
Like many RPGs, this one starts a little slow. You are the main character who was found buried asleep for a thousand years in an E.G.G. suit. Now you have awakened in a science lab where you have been studied over that last 100 years. During that time your E. G. G. has also been studied and copied to the point of being the main mode of transportation for people. Your awakeningjseems to coinside with the awakening of huge tenticled machine plant creatures that have spread out from ancient domes. Predictable is: ONE - you don't remember who you are or what you are to do. TWO - you are the only hope to restore order back into the world. Most of your travels are visually in good quality Japanese two dementional drawings. Fight scenes seem to switch to 3D but with the 2D backgrounds. It ... This is an RPG so you must walk around, gather clues, talk to whoever you run in to, collect things, fight beasts, save people and always upgrade or advance you stuff or skills. I have a bunch os little kids so I can't put more than 20 minutes into a game at one time, so I have not played all the way through. Bottom line: Full scale RPG in 2D drawing style animation. Good English translations and good story. Light on action - at least in the beginning.

Just an average EGG nothing special
what starts out as an awesome gripping story that sucks the gamer in quickly gets tiresome with endless puzzles and no clear direction. Be sure to download a walkthrough, as well as a visual walkthrough. boss battles are really fun, but are few and far between.
