À propos de ce produit

Product Information

In 1993, following a failed attempt to ascend K2, Greg Mortenson was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers in Pakistan and promised to build them a school. From that rash, earnest promise grew one of the most incredible humanitarian campaigns of our time--Mortenson's one-man mission to counteract extremism by building schools, especially for girls, throughout the breeding ground of the Taliban. Award-winning journalist David Oliver Relin has collaborated on this spellbinding account of Mortenson's incredible accomplishments in a region where Americans are often feared and hated. Over the following decade Mortenson built not just one but fifty-five schools. Three Cups of Tea is at once an unforgettable adventure and the inspiring story of how one man really is changing the world--one school at a time. • One mans mission to create peace, one school at a time

This book, minus the innapropriate subtitle, is a compelling biography of Greg Mortenson's struggles in impoverished regions of Pakistan. This book offers insights into not only the turmoil and uncertainty that plauges the region, but also looks into the lives of the people that live there. An adventurous young American climber, Mortenson, is stranded high in the mountains near the notorious K2 peak. He is emmerced in the local culture and begins to see the perils that illiteracy and radical islamic educations bring. His mission is to build a single school in this village of Korphe, a task much easier said than done. Through his journey, Mortenson, discovers the realities of Islam, poverty, ignorance and hatred. He is able to overcome such obstacles and achieve his goals while ...

  • Three Cups of Tea

I am an avid reader but not normally of non-fiction. I had heard about this book and had put off reading it. I am not sure exactly why I finally decided to read it but I am so glad I did. It has really opened my eyes to some of the things that are happening in today's world. More than that, it shows what one person can accomplish with desire and dedication. I must admit that it reads like a novel, meaning I couldn't put it down, and in some way has changed my life. It brings to light what is behind the scenes of Islam, the Taliban and the ways of the people in those places such as Pakistan and Afghanistan. I would recommend it to anyone who like to read and has a conscience. I read it first and then I purchased it and may purchase more to give as gifts. I believe that speaks for its ...

  • Well worth reading.

Although "Three cups of Tea" drags a bit here and there, overall it is a good read. The reader gains timely insight into a fascinating culture. The last 35 pages are the most exciting and they make up for the slow bits earlier on. Mortenson is an extraordinary man deserving of the Nobel Peace award.

  • Three Cups of Tea

I bought this book out of curiosity after hearing about it in church, after its constant presence on the best-seller list and after Obama gave some of his Nobel Peace Prize winnings to the Central Asia Institute which one of the authors runs. Well, it isd an amazing story of the impact that one person can have in the world!

This is already required reading for West Point students. I feel it should be a must read for all americans! A FANTASTIC book.
