  • Wild Swans Review

At first i bought this book because it was a book report thing. My teacher told me that this book would be interesting and would teach history at the same time. I has always been interested in Asian history so once I started reading this book I couldnt let it down. I found it very delightful to read because it tells about the history of the women status in China and the wars and Communists in China. It is very interesting to read about how the author's grandmother and mother lived through all the unfair treatment that was put upon them. I would tottally recommend this book to whoever love reading about history or just for entertainment reading. You will never want to put the book down and you will be surprise by how fast you would be able to finish the book that is about 300 pages long :]

  • A Most Excellent Read...I Could Not Put It Down!!

I have an interest in South and Far East Asia. I had seen this book at Border's several times, but always left without it. I came across a brand new copy on ebay...and could not pass it by! I am so glad that I purchased this book. From start to finish, this biography/autobiography kept me very interested. It reads like a first class novel. The author tells the story of her grandmother, her mother and herself and their individual trials and tribulations in China. From the concubine life of her grandmother, to her mother's experience as a Communist official, and then on to her own slow disillusionment with the Red Guard and Chairman Mao, the author weaves a great tale. For anyone interested in Chinese History...or for anyone else who just loves a great read...this is the book for you!

  • Wild Swans by Jung Chang

This book was a book club choice. I was nervous upon reading the first few pages that it almost felt like a textbook. About an hour later my husband walks by and comments that I didn't have to finish the book in one day. I was hooked!! I found it a book that I didn't want to just speed through it. I would read and think about it a lot. The topics and themes are numerous. The roles of women in China, the government and how it affected it's people, the dynamics of a family, and how trial either breaks up or unites a family. I loved this book and highly recommend it. I borrowed a copy from the library and loved it so much I am now buying it.

  • Tedious read

This a was a book club selection. It was so difficult to read however that over half of the group didn't even finish it! The character names were difficult to follow and the writing was a bit simplistic and the whole book could have been more condensed with out losing the story's main point. Which was to show the suffering and tragity that the Chinese people have gone through and the evil power that a Communist hold can have on people. If you have a lot of time on you hands and want to learn more about the Chinese culture and history go for it, but I wouldn't recommend the book.

  • Wild Swans by Jung Chang

I purchased the book for my wife. She has just finished it and found it very informative and enlightening. She enjoys history and was amazed at what she read about what was happening in China. She found the book quite captivating and looked forward to reading it each night and then shared what she had read with me. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in being enlightened as to the depths to which evil men and women will go and more fully appreciating what great opportunities we have in western culture.
