À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Not Without My Daughter is the true story of a courageous mother and her breathtaking odyssey, now a major motion picture starring Academy Award-winner Sally Field! In August 1984, Michigan housewife Betty Mahmoody accompanied her husband to his native Iran for a two-week vacation. To her horror, she found herself and her four-year-old daughter, Mahtob, virtual prisoners of a man rededicated to his Shiite Moslem faith, in a land where women are near-slaves and Americans are despised. Their only hope for escape lay in a dangerous underground that would not take her child... Not Without My Daughter is a Literary Guild Alternate Selection.

  • US/Iran Family

It was interesting to compare this book with the recently viewed movie on tv. I enjoyed the story and am having fun seeing differences between the book and the movie. I am still reading the book each day and will likely finish it within 3-4 days. I am so happy with the purchase, condition of the book, prompt delivery, and price.

  • Must read for Americans marrying into Persian Families

I absolutely loved this book - i found it so compelling that any spare minute i had, i was reading it. It is written in such a way that if you have been an American female entering an Iranian family, then you've found a companion-as the reader you will find you are able to identify with a lot of the emotions and storylines described. I will say that although it can be challenging transitioning into the culture, the book describes some very graphic violence that i am sure is not the norm - not all Iranian men have the capacity to behave in such a vulgar way. When i'd finished reading, i found myself upset that noone had told me to read it earlier - it would have helped me get through things a lot better if i had had an understanding of the culture from the perspective of an ...

  • More Compelling and Detailed than the Movie

After watching the movie, I wanted to read the book. The truth is the truth and the book's details are quite compelling and TRUE, no matter the politics of the day. Betty overcame a high risk of death countless times. This book illustrates living as an American in the Islamic State of Iran in a compelling way. The movie was good. The book is really good.

  • Very Informative, intense and haunting.

Tells of insight into the Islamic world with examples of how women have no rights. Should be REQUIRED reading in every school room in the United States of America.

  • It was worth the money

I am amazed at how different this book was from the movie. It is an exciting yet depressing read. This woman had tenacity that only she could have in order to have escaped the harsh environment that she lived in. Although she talked about the way Iranians treated women on a whole she did not try to make ALL Iranians seem like her husband and his family were because she made some wonderful friends out there. Iranians and Kurds helped her leave Iran to flee into Turkey. This was worth the purchase please do not expect it to be like the movie because from what I read it was loosely based on the book.
