"Eventually, Jack learns that poetry might be just the way to process some things in his life. This book, and Miss Stretchberry, are magic." One of the 11 Best Teachers in Children's Literature, A poignant, funny picture of a child's encounter with the power of poetry. This book is a tiny treasure.

Synopsis
The Newbery Medal-winning author of Walk Two Moons, Sharon Creech, brings readers a story with enormous heart. Love That Dog shows how one boy named Jack finds his voice with the help of a teacher, a pencil, some yellow paper, and of course, a dog. Written as a series of free-verse poems from Jack's point of view, and with classic poetry included in the back matter, this novel is perfect for kids and teachers, too. Jack hates poetry. Only girls write it and every time he tries to, his brain feels empty. But his teacher, Miss Stretchberry, won't stop giving her class poetry assignments--and Jack can't avoid them. But then something amazing happens. The more he writes, the more he learns that he does have something to say. "I guess it does look like a poem when you see it typed up like that.", The Newbery Medal-winning author of Walk Two Moons, Sharon Creech , brings readers a story with enormous heart. • Disappointed

This book was rated good, but it was totally rumpled in a way that cannot be flattened out. I’m not sure I even want to put it in my classroom.

  • Love That Dog by Sharon Creech

I heard about this book from a fellow teacher. I took it out from my local library and liked it so much that I bought it. Boy's in general seem to have a harder time with the writing of poetry and I liked how the main character starts out not wanting to write it, but then sees that he not only can relate to it, but like it and write it. Very funny at times and moving at others. I teach 4th grade and am looking forward to using it this year with them during our poetry unit.

  • Sweet

It’s a great book for children. But all adults who love dogs will love this book as well🧡

  • Great Quick Read

Great book! It's one of those books that you pick it up and then you can't put it down. It's a single-sided notebook conversation between a student who hates poetry and his teacher.
