Fame in name only.
OK, I've read all the previous reviews from Johnny's family, friends and those who feel they have to support one of their own preference, but here is the unvarnished truth. Both my wife and I have been avid fans of Mathis, so when she heard that he had released a new album she asked me to send for it without ever hearing a single cut from it. Sadly, after our first listen, had it not been for the last cut "What a Wonderful World" which we were all familiar with, instead of being "wonderful, wonderful"- it is: disappointing, disappointing. Ironically, titling the album "Let It Be Me", is the furthest thing Johnny accomplished with album. Nashville is not conducive to the melodious Mathis sound we've all come to love and expect. So Johnny, in the words of Lennon & McCartney, "Get back, get ... Johnny Mathis keeps getting better!
Love that he sang songs that were recorded by other artists, and have remained very popular. Johnny can sing anything, but the combination of his fantastic voice and putting his own twist to each song make this album one of his best ever! It makes the heart and soul happy...just to hear it.

Oh it's Johnny and it's absolutely amazing!
I love Johnny and when the CD was released I knew I had to have it. I knew Johnny could deliver, but I also know that country music is not what people expect from the man with the sensuous, silky voice. I was not disapointed! "Let It Be Me" was wonderful and I listened with a smile on my face to every song. The mood, the lyrics the music, the man and his beautiful voice, Allison and Vince. It all came together perfectly. The voice of "silk" has done it again! This CD teaches a valuable lesson to those who thought it would'nt work. "Never under estimate the versatility of Johnny Mathis." Love the music, love the man.
