Great addition to an post war Lionel layout
Great looking set except for fragile addon whistle on engine - more importantly - you can run it on your original Lionel track & wiring. (NOTE: This is a great "starter" set complete with track and transformer.) I have a large pre & postwar layout so I wanted a train that I could run on it without having to make any modifications. This package fills the bill. Polar Express
A very good train set ,looks and runs great . This set come with 80 watt transformer that is easy to get full control of motion of train. The only down side is it runs great on new fast track that comes with the set , sometimes has a glitch on tubular track o31 . So if you plan on running on old style track take it easy until you figure it out . All in all a great train set for any and all train enthusiasts.A very good train set ,looks and runs great . I examined this train set in box, appears sturdy and wonderful to look at. I plan to set up at Christmas time. I can't wait! I've always wanted a lionel train set especially the "polar express" set.

Wonderful Christmas train that kids will enjoy for many years. Simple setup.
Nice product, kids love it, appears to be well built. The fastrack goes together easily and is durable. The drawbacks I found to this product is the whistle is very hard to hear over the sound of the train. There are some remedies that can be found with an online search. I also found some of the couplers to be very hard to connect. Train transformer has a bell button that you can push all day long and you will never hear the bell, I believe the transformer is used in other Lionel train kits that have a bell, the Polar Express does not have a bell. Overall I can deal with the drawbacks and the grandchildren love the Polar Express under the Christmas tree. A great collectible as well.Nice product, kids love it, appears to be well built. Best Polar Express set to date.
Get the early set and you’ll be surprised how nice the quality is! Lionel traded off the early fine separately applied details when they switched to remote control sets after 2014. The early transformer sets are much nicer than the newer stuff out with the exception of Legacy. These sets are so nice I purchased 2 of them and was planning on giving one to my grandson. Unfortunately kids today aren’t excited unless their toys are video games connected to a TV. My kids had trains when they were young and loved them. These are GREAT sets for around the tree at Christmas time. I set mine up right before Thanksgiving and take it down after New Years Day. My set has run without a glitch for 14 years now.
