Joan Crawford followed up her role in WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? with this full-bodied horror film from producer-director William Castle and writer Robert Bloch (PSYCHO). Crawford plays Lucy Harbon, who in the film's opening moments hacks her husband and his lover to pieces with an ax. Twenty years later, Lucy is let out of the asylum to live with her daughter, now played by Diane Baker. Unfortunately, the daughter lives on a farm replete with chicken, pigs...and axes--and before long it's not just the chickens that are losing their heads.Everything is surprisingly effective in this suspenseful film, but Crawford especially is a knockout. She acts whole pages of dialogue with a single pained glance, moving believably from touchingly vulnerable to homicidally enraged with ease. Also noteworthy is George Kennedy as a deranged farmhand and the ripely paranoid score from Van Alexander. Fans of Crawford and PSYCHO will want to do themselves the favor of checking out this inspired, delightfully grim little shocker.

Strait Jacket. Try it on!
If you are a fan of B&W thriller movies this is a must for any collection. Joan Crawford plays one charater in two roles. The twenty-something woman who commits a crime in a insane jealous rage and the same same character in her forties after 20 years in an asylum. The marvelous part is she was pretty close to 60 years old at the time she made the movie. This is not her best work, but again it is a good movie. It has suspense, surprise, and solid acting. The murder scenes are tame by today's standard, but were very bold and over the edge in it's day. This is to be expected from a William Castle movie with a story written by Psycho author Robert Bloch. It has good special features that include a "Making of" segment and screen tests. One of Castle's best.

It's a great movie I really love it it was made basically on her comeback trail she was a great actress from beginning to end and I'm really glad I was able to get this movie through eBay

Joan Crawford with an axe --- just plain scary!
STRAIT JACKET is a black and white film about an insane axe murderess. There is no explicit gore, but there are still a few genuinely scary moments. Joan Crawford wielding an axe --- need I say more? Even before MOMMIE DEAREST, Joan's performance in this movie is enough to induce nightmares. Seeing the sixty-something actress play a 29-year-old is disturbing on so many levels! Once the action fast-forwards twenty years, Crawford delivers an excellent, convincing performance and even elicits the audience's sympathy. The newly-released 49-year-old mental patient is vulnerable, confused, and descending back into madness...or is she being framed? George Kennedy plays a sleazy handyman who delights in chopping off the heads of chickens. Whether you enjoy movies from the good old days ... Great Vintage Movie
This is a great movie I first saw 30 years ago. I am happy to own it at a great price. Very entertaining.

Sooo glad I found Strait-Jacket. I love all Joan C and Bettie D movies. Nothing like the older movies.
