nice retrospective, inexplicably missing several gems
This box set is a keeper for long time H&O fans,yet it could have been even better. The 16 previously unreleased cuts have some true gems,first and foremost the first three tracks "Girl I Love You", "I Need Your Love" and "Say These Words..." featuring Daryl and John's respective mid 60's outfits The Temptones and The Masters. There are also several live tracks from their 1975 tour in London, England ("Lady Rain"/"Abandoned Luncheonette"/Beanie G. And The Rose Tatoo") that sizzle. In addition,the most well known and beloved Hall and Oates classics ("She's Gone","Sara Smile","Rich Girl","Say It Isn't So"- are all duly included here. Yet a handful of glaring omissions from their catalog mar this otherwise fine testament to the powerful legacy of Blue Eyed Soul. Not a single track from ... Beauty also has several great cuts ("Love Hurts,(Love Heals)","Why Do Lovers Break Each Other's Hearts?","the John Oates penned aching power ballad "The Emptyness") that should have made the cut here. Excluding and depriving fans of such standout work while including yet another live version of "Everytime You Go Away" or obscure throaway B-sides like "Time's Up (Alone Tonight) at their expense just isn't right,or to put it in your own words, guys-I Can't Go For That (No Can Do).
