À propos de ce produit

Product Information

For nearly a decade Garak has longed for just one thing -- to go home. Exiled on a space station, surrounded by aliens who loathe and distrust him, going back to Cardassia has been Garak's one dream. Now, finally, he is home. But home is a world whose landscape is filled with death and destruction. Desperation and dust are constant companions and luxury is a glass of clean water and a warm place to sleep.Ironically, it is a letter from one of the aliens on that space station, Dr. Julian Bashir, that inspires Garak to look at the fabric of his life. Elim Garak has been a student, a gardener, a spy, an exile, a tailor, even a liberator. It is a life that was charted by the forces of Cardassian society with very little understanding of the person, and even less compassion. But it is the tailor that understands who Elim Garak was, and what he could be. It is the tailor who sees the ruined fabric of Cardassia, and who knows how to bring this ravaged society back together. This is strange, because a tailor is the one thing Garak never wanted to be. But it is the tailor whom both Cardassia and Elim Garak need. It is the tailor who can put the pieces together, who can take a stitch in time.

  • the story of Elim Garak

This is, I believe, the best Trek book I have read to date. The plot is simple, it fills in the detail's of Garak's life before Deep Space Nine, and Garak's life and feelings during the events surrounding the invasion of Cardassia prime, and then it tells us about his efforts on the devastated planet after wards. The characterizations were consistent and superb throughout the novel, and to differentiate between the different plot lines, the author simply uses different fonts. It was a neat effect. This book is written in a series of first-person entries into Garak's journal, which he has arranged into an interesting order and is sending to Dr. Bashir. Although the premise and writing are clear, it is an interesting, sometimes thought-provoking, and always fascinating view of life through ...

  • One of the best ST novels I have read.

I have read many ST novels over the years and most of the official DS9 continuation. This one stands out. It really feels like Garak wrote it. This isn't suprising because Andrew Robinson is the actor who played hime so well for seven years. Many authors, who write about established characters, don't have a real feel for who they are or how they speak. This is not true here. The book itself follows Garaks activities after the Dominion War and his struggle to cope with everything. While doing that, he remembers things from his past and we are exposed to more of this complex character. Most of the book is in the form of messages to Dr. Bashir so it is in the first person. This only helps the reality of it. If you like DS9 in general, and Garak in particular, I would give it a try.

  • A must read for anyone who is a fan of Elim Garak.

The book was written by Andrew Robinson and really gives us greater perspective into Garak and Cardassian culture as a whole. It ties back into the TV series effortlessly and the change in font to reflect the change in time was a beautifully elegant way to track the stories as it jumps from different points in Garak's life.

  • One of my favorites....

I read this book a couple days ago, it became an instant hit with me. This is the story of Elim Garek, who is a regular character on the hit television show Star Trek : Deep Space Nine, a member of a ruthless race known as the Cardassians. Cardassians are taught their role in the world around them very early as each is selected for his or her position in society from Childhood. Without giving away anything from the book let me just say this book was written by the man who created the character of Elim Garek (Andrew J. Robinson) so its perspective makes it one of the most unique stories in Star trek literature.

  • A Stitch in Time is excellent.

It is an excellent book written by the actor that played the character and created a back story just for himself that was so good they published it.
