The Best Tactics ogre you can take with you
This Tactics Ogre game is almost as addicting as the one for the Playstation. The differences are the storyline and character building engine. The storyline is interesting enough for the avergage player, however my roomate hated the fact that you can't just skip the opening dialogue which is rather extensive, which gives the game a slower start for some people's tastes. The character builder incorporates the new "emblem" system for building a character, and also allows persuasion from non-main characters! (perhaps giving this game an egde over the PS version?) For those of you unfamiliar with the strategy RPG Genre (and therefore have no idea what I am talking about) I highly recommend this game as an introduction to the genre, because of it's simplicity (and depth, ironically). The game allows you to build your character along the lines of a warrior, knight, magician, archer, etc, and allows you to recruit many different characters including non-humans, such as dragons, faeries, and the undead. Particularly satisfying is learning how to create the Lich class, which is a personal sidequest for any serious player of this game. Basically, the Lich is an undead wizard with massive magical power with which to wipe out your enemies. However, this game isn't just about blunted spearpoints, it requires basic tactical awareness and some strategy, and leaves room for intense thinkers to stretch thier minds and figure out ways to build the ultimate team. Also exciting about this game is the spells, items, and armor, which are unique and rare. If you like battling, treasure hunting, designing the perfect battle team, exploring a fantasy story which leads to the gates of the tomb of a fallen angel (massively difficult final boss makes for a satisfying finale), then you will enjoy this game as I did. For beginners, I recommend saving often and leveling up as much as possible, because it's hard to resurrect your characters without a priest, which you dont get right away. The thing that may turn off newcomers is the permanent loss of thier favorite character if it dies in battle, but that is easily overcome with saving and training, persistence. In summary, for such a deceptively easy and simple game, the level of gameplay is tremendous. You don't even notice the isolinear and "boxy" battlefield because you are engrossed in the gameplay. I only rate this game 4 out of 5 because: Tactics Ogre for the Playstation (Let us cling together) Which is nearly the same game (different story and subtle differences) Allows you to have a team of 10 characters, as opposed to 8 on the handheld. That takes away from the game on the handheld in my opinion, although die hard fans won't care, and newbies won't notice. And the 100-level H*ll Gate dungeon on the PS was a noticably fun, and addicting quest, missing on this version. Excellent beginners game, a very good game for Orge Battle fans, and the best Tactics Ogre ever on Game Boy. (Obviously.) Enjoy the two seperate paths to take in the game, which doubles the gameplay. I didn't find the non-linear side game very interesting, but I applaud the creativity, and the fact that it's not necessary to the game. Taste this game, but find a rare copy of the full blown Tactics Ogre for the PS2, which is superior to this excellent game! The graphics are only slightly more dated, but not noticably. Besides, the game looks better on the big screen. Enjoy, hope this was helpful.

Tactics Ogre is possibly one of the best SRPGs on the Gameboy Advance. It has a very "Final Fantasy Tactics" feel to it. In the graphics department, it does a great job of illustrating the lush environments and intriguing characters both on and off of the battle field. The battles are FANTASTIC! They take the very best of "Final Fantasy Tactics" and make them just a little more complex for experienced players, so if you're a fan of SRPGs like "Final Fantasy Tactics" you will love Tactics Ogre for the Gameboy Advance.Tactics Ogre is possibly one of the best SRPGs on the Gameboy Advance. It has a very "Final Fantasy Tactics" feel to it. In the graphics department, it does a great job of illustrating the lush environments and intriguing characters both on and off of the battle field. The battles are FANTASTIC! 65 Hours are missing from my life...
I had my first introduction with Tactics Ogre on the PS1. I ended up selling this game on eBay, because I was frankly bored with the leveling up to survive. To my astonishment, TO: KofL, drew me in and didn't let go until I had beaten the final boss, 65 hours later. Of course, that number is much higher, because of the numerous times I restarted not to lose a favorite character. Players of this game will soon discover that except for the training levels, once a character falls in battle it's "hasta la vista, baby" never to return. This turned a lot of people off, but for me, it only fired me on to complete every level without perishing. I became obsessed with getting my beloved friends leveled to near indestructiblity! There are some repetitions of backrounds, but there is a high sprite ... I had my first introduction with Tactics Ogre on the PS1. The dialogue never made me not want to skip it. Great adult entertainment for fans of the strategyRPG. Take it to a cabin, or a lake and get ready to waste away a good hunk of your life. Highly Recommended!

This is a good game but I like FF tactics better
I bought Tactics Ogre. Finally after hearing all of the great things about it and reading all of the great reviews about it and how this was one of the best gameboy advance game titles to buy. So I bought it and even online on ebay it is still going for a lot of money. Almost as much as Final Fantasy VI which I chose not to buy because I have played it before. So Tactics Ogre is a really cool game but it is kind of hard. Where the enemies have very high Hit Points and then they can take off a ton of your points making it a war of attrition in which they usually win out on me. *And a lot of times it does feel like they are cheating! Maybe I am just not that good at this game or don't have the patience to sit down and figure out the strategy. I later bought Final Fantasy Tactics for the Gameboy and I found out that this is the perfect tactics style game for me. I have just more fun playing this one. I have not been stumped yet at a part that seems too difficult it is rather easier than Tactics Ogre. The graphics are about the same as Tactics Ogre, but the music in my opinion is definitely better. I like the characters better in FF tactics, although I have seen negative reviews about it from people who say they are too cutesy and cuddly or whatever. Maybe they are but geez for a portable game that you just take with you wherever you go it doesn't have to be too serious in my opinion. I like Final Fantasy Tactics better than Tactics Ogre overall even though the former hasn't gotten as good of reviews by the critics. The reasons I like it better are its replay value and the characters I like a lot better! You have lizards and rabbits and fun and different looking human characters to choose from, not to mention the monks and wizards and things. Tactics Ogre just has basic human characters, not to say they aren't fun to play with but they don't hold my interest as much. If if you are one of those people who love Chronicles of Narnia then you will know what I mean when I say Final Fantasy Tactics is better. If you are more of a Lord of the Rings person then Tactics Ogre is more a game for you. The story of Tactics Ogre even kind of feels like a lord of the rings plot, which is probably the best thing going for that game. Yeah I know tactics Ogre started this game genre from what I know, but to me this game is hard and not as fun as Final Fantasy Tactics. And if you are afraid that Final Fantasy Tactics doesn't look graphically as good, it looks at least as good if not better. And the magic spells are more fun to do you don't have to constantly be stumped fighting the same battle, you can choose to fight different missions. The game has a learning curve that is more suited for people like me who don't have the patience to sit down and spend hours getting serious on a game. So that is my take.

I missed this game so much and replaying it takes me back to the early 2000s. It’s your standard RPG with Easter eggs, and grinding will be required.
