À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Zhang Yimou, the director of such Chinese epics as RED SORGHUM, RAISE THE RED LANTERN, JU DOU, and SHANGHAI TRIAD, takes his first stab at a period martial arts film and succeeds wildly, making an intelligent, carefully crafted drama that pays tribute to the genre while taking it to another level. The story is set 2,000 years ago, during the time of the Warring States, when seven kindgoms were battling for dominance, and one leader--the king of Qin (Chen Dao Ming)--was determined to end up victorious and unite all of China as one nation. The proud king is forced to live trapped alone in his palace as a remarkable trio of villains--Broken Sword (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai), Flying Snow (Maggie Cheung Man-Yuk), and Sky (Donnie Yen)--are out to kill him. But one day a simple country prefect (Jet Li) shows up, announcing that he has killed all three assassins. Identifying himself as Nameless, the prefect tells in great detail how he got rid of the king's sworn enemies. However, once Nameless is finished, the king has some interesting questions for him, pointing out holes in his tale. The cat-and-mouse story continues as Nameless and the king seek to find out the truth about the assassins and the future of China. Zhang Yimou's marvelous film is enhanced by Christopher Doyle's lush photography, Tan Dunn's percussive score (with Itzhak Perlman adding violin and fiddle), exciting special effects from SHAOLIN SOCCER veteran Tony Ching Siu-Tung, and excellent acting.

  • Hero: A captivating martial arts film

I just finished watching Hero earlier today and I am very impressed. If you like the classic martial arts films with their exaggerated usage of ropes and harnesses, you'll be pleased as well. Pros: The choreography of this film is awesome, but not overworked like some films are. You will be drawn into the action scenes as they play a roll in the plot in the story. There is a lot of drama and passion fueling the battles, not just your average violent brutes fighting. Cons: Honestly, the plot is a bit average and typical when compared to other films of our time (eg. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers, etc). It has the classic story of the journey of a warrior, politics, and revenge. All in all, this is a great film and I recommend it to any Kung-Fu or ...

  • Hero Drama

The movie on my view is good.It is very good looking from martial arts side. A lot of awesome fighting. But because there is so much drama i wouldn't cal it action movie. People fight with those they love then even tho they didn't want to they (or she to be more presice ) kills the loved one. And the she kills herself. I am not saying drama is a bad thing but if you don't like it ,maybe the movie isn't for you. Over all i liked the whole movie. ( even tho i wathced it uncut, i watched it in chinese language with only english captions.) The only thing i didn't like is the way master 'nameless' the hero and one of the main characters dies. he dies by the arows he could easily dodge. during the movie he easily defended from large number of arows and ...

  • In a War, both sides has Heros

Director Zhan Yimou is a great director of drama. But he has never directed an action film before. So I went into this with some trepidation. But he has showm with 'Hero', that he is a overall great director. This movie was very well cast and directed. Jet Li plays a nameless warrior who presents to the Emperor of Qin the weapons of the three greatest assassins. All of who had sworn to kill him. We are taken on a trip through the stories of the Nameless and how he killed the three assassins. And then once again when the emperor tells us his interpretaion of what he perceives happen. Ever perception of the story has its on emotions, visually displayed by its own primary color. The filiming is also epic, the were able to use the chinese army to fill in as extra's for the ...

  • HERO - An epic fantasy adventure for all

Fans of the martial arts and/or Hong Kong dramas will be delighted with the stellar cast assembled for this magnificent epic. Three top stars from Wong Kar-Wai's dreamy fantasy 2046 are reunited here: Tony Leung Chiu Wai (Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love) is a standout as the one assassin who realizes the ultimate intent of the hated King of Qin; Maggie Cheung Man-Yak is memorable as his relentless partner who would hound the king to his grave; and the ubiquitous Ziyi Zhang plays the modest yet passionate servant who would kill for her master (Leung). Jet Li stars as the Nameless assassin who enlists the help of the top three assassins in China (Leung, Cheung, and renowned martial artist Donnie Yen) to assist him in dispatching the king once and for all. Nameless spins the king ...

  • Visually stunning

I loved the visuals, as most everyone probably did, as well. To me, it was just a great film to watch for the visuals and enjoyment. However, I bought the import version (has the mug shots of the 5 characters Jet, Zhang, Tony, Maggie & Donnie on cover). I don't know if it's the same with the domestic version?, but mine said it has special features but I don't see how I can access them from the menu. I'd greatly appreciate some help here! Anyways, yes visually stunning martial arts/action, despite areas subtly exaggerated.
