Weather an expert or beginner, this book is a must have
National Geographic's "Eyewitness to the Civil War" is a beautiful 400+ page, leather bound book with foil embossed page edges and a cloth page marker. It is filled with the nitty gritty of the Civil war from secession to reconstruction. It covers 11 major battles, is filled with tons of digitally re-mastered photographs, many of the original glass slides that the photos were taken on. It has hand drawn maps detailing each battle by a soldier and artist of the era. Sections called "Eyewitness" that showcases historic figures of the time such as Grant, Lincoln and Lee. Double page spreads of original arms and equiptment of the time as well as original uniform pieces. It is just a beautiful book and a must have either for the serious Civil War buff or any just starting on the journey to ... A Fascinating Book!
I am a Civil War buff and find this book extremely interesting. The chapters and the articles within them give a "picture" of the war and the people who were in it - not just from the military aspect, but about the multitudes of other people who were involved in one way or another. It isn't just dry facts, but has a lot of human interest as well. If you are interested in the "small bits and pieces" of what happened at that time, you will enjoy this book.I am a Civil War buff and find this book extremely interesting. This wonderful book contains hundreds of photos, illustrations and eyewitness accounts to the civil war highlighting both sides of the conflict. I first purchased a copy for my son's birthday; he enjoyed it so much we bought a second copy for his friends b.day. Makes an excellent coffee table book as well-its enjoyable to puruse through the photos and still be able to participate in conversations.
