Teenager Daphne Reynolds (Amanda Bynes) dreams of one day dancing with her father at her wedding. Her dream is complicated by the fact that she has never met her dad, Lord Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth), a British politician to whom her mother, singer Libby (Kelly Preston), was married 17 years prior. Unfortunately, Henry's aristocratic family did not approve of bohemian Libby and drove her away. Determined to find her father, who has no idea that she exists, Daphne leaves her New York City home and runs off to London, where, much to the dismay of Henry's conniving fiancée (Anna Chancellor) and her jealous daughter (Christina Cole), she soon becomes a part of daily life at Dashwood Manor. Can a free-spirited American teenager survive in proper British high society? Not without a few bumps along the road. As Daphne tries to fit into her father's world, she has to decide whether or not she is willing to give up all of the traits that make her unique. What a Firth fan wants...!!
Very entertaining film! Amanda Bynes is perfect in this role! Colin Firth is just precious, when he lets his hair down, on a day out with his daughter! LOVE him in those tight-fitting black leather pants & black crop top...& his dancing!! WOW!! To put on pause, rewind, & play, over & again!! Got to feel sorry for Anna Chancellor! Her character never got to first base with Colin's, in "Pride and Prejudice," & here, she made it to (maybe?) third base, even was engaged, complete with a huge sparkler! But, once again, left bereft, of scoring a homer, with Colin's character! Poor girl! Well, at least, she DID get to snog him a few times, on screen! (These two go 'way back, as they were in plays together, in theater). Supporting actors were very good, also, & provide many favorite scenes, to ... Very entertaining film! fairy tale ending
This is really a chick flick.It takes a young girl who never knew her father, but knows who he is and wants to meet him. She ventures off to a far away place and ends up in a castle (so to speak). She meets the Queen and falls in love with a local boy. She ends up with the best of both worlds.It shows that there are good people still around for she helps twins to open up to a new fashion scene and romance. There is also a spoiled brat who tries to make her time there miserable. Great movie with a great story. Also, the way the Intended Wife of her dad and her evil spirited daughter both got their just deserts along with their the old hags daddy. Again, I just Love these Cinderella type movies and seeing the old "Vixens & Hags" get theirs.Love all of these Cinderella type Movies! Great Cast of Actors! Both Heart Warming as well as Uplifting. I bought this after having watched it a few years ago. I really like it. It's very entertaining. I would recommend it if you like adventures, love, romance, travel to foreign places to find dreams can come true.

When the US Messes with The UK
I'm a grandmother with a huge open mind and like all types of movies. I saw this on regular television (always cut and edited to fit into time frames)and adored it so that I wanted to see it uncut and be able to watch it all I wanted. Being a slightly older film it was difficult to find in the stores so I thought of looking on Ebay and wow! Not only was it instantly there I had choices of prices, editions and a way better choice than I would have found in a "Store" somewhere. It's a feel good family film,addictive and Colin Firth does a superb role.I'm a grandmother with a huge open mind and like all types of movies.
