Oh my goodness, such a joy to be able to find this book here on Ebay. Just visited Gibsons BC (The film set for the show) only to find the remaining copies now are "out of print" but this came through and so thrilled to finally have a copy of this legendary work (signed by Beachcombers actor Jackson Davies himself) Such an excellent buy and only took 2 days to arrive.     Plan B kit lens

    This is a full frame lens so can be used on FX or film cameras as well as crop sensor (DX) cam eras. Constriction is plastic (except for the drive) including the F-mount flange. This means it is not likely to fair well on a drop. It is, however, very light weight and images do seem to be sharp even when zoomed to 300 mm. If you use it on a Nikon DX camera the camera will crop the image to appear like that of a longer focal length by a factor of 1.5. While optically it is still a 70-300 mm lens the images will appear like a 105-450 mm on a DX camera. It is not exceptionally fast so figure on daylight use. No focus motor is built into the lens so your camera must have the internal focus motor (not available on many smaller body Nikon DX cameras). This lens was often included as the second ...

    Properly priced

    I bought this lens for my home inspection business, and it's perfect for that function. Houses don't move (much), so manual focus is no problem. Low light is seldom an issue, so maximum aperture of 5.6 is OK. It starts going soft at f-stops above f 11 or below f 8, so not a great lens in that regard. It's nice and compact (one reason I chose it), so I can carry it and my camera body, attached, in a small bag. Low light and moving subjects, no. Static subjects in daylight for medium-resolution applications, yes.

    Great lens for the money!!!

    Ordered this product to extend the range of my Nikon D60 camera, knowing that it would be manual focus only, but otherwise fully compatible to the "AF-G" spec. with no aperture ring. This lens does not have an internal focus motor and was intended for some of the older autofocus film cameras and early or higher end digital cameras with focus motors in the camera body. Have only been able to take few test shots with it but I am so far very satisfied with both the picture quality and of the build quality of the lens. Compact for its effective length. Slightly faster aperture that the AF-S version meant for the D40/ D60/ D3000, etc. If you don't mind the manual focus with these cameras, or if you do have a body with a focus motor, I don't believe you could go wrong with ...

    A lens built like a tank!

    Very well built lens (Metal not plastic). Older push-pull zoom style has appeal to me. Its autofocus is fast and accurate. It works beautifully with both a DSLR (D300) and an older film cameras (N90s). While it lacks some modern features such as VR and distance communication to the camera, it's used price along with a $117.00 film camera body allows me to safely use a bird lens in a canoe. If it drowns I'm not out big bucks. With an aperture ring I can use it with extension tubes for close focusing. And the aperture ring also allows me to use older tele-converters. Its tripod mounting ring has never gotten in my way and is very helpful in balancing my outfit on a mount.     Great for the price.

    All lenses are not created equal, even at the same focal lengths and even by the same company. This lens is great, but doesn't have the vibration reduction technology. You don't know how great it is until you don't have it. But for half the price, or less, this lens is fantastic. At full zoom, you'll likely want to mount it to a tripod, especially if you're not in full daylight shooting. But I do consider it money well spent for the price. If you can't afford the the VR version (like the 55-200mm or 18-200mm), then this is a great lens to work with. Of course, if you have the money to spend, you can get the VR version of this exact focal length, along with VR AND a 2.8 aperature PLUS other upgrades. It'll only cost you about 10 to 15 times the cost of this one. So... yeah.... it's ...
