NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER . "This is Jeff Shaara at his best, giving us another superb and historically grounded novel of one of the most dramatic struggles of World War II."-George McGovern Utilizing the voices of the conflict's most heroic figures, some immortal and some unknown, Jeff Shaara tells the story of America's pivotal role in WorldWar II- fighting to hold back the Japanese conquest of the Pacific while standing side-by-side with her British ally, the last hope for turning the tide of the war against Germany. As British and American forces strike into the soft underbelly of Hitler's Fortress Europa, the new weapons of war come clearly into focus. In North Africa, tank battles unfold in a tapestry of dust and fire unlike any the world has ever seen. In Sicily, the Allies attack their enemy with a barely tested weapon- the paratrooper. As battles rage along the coasts of the Mediterranean, the momentum of the war begins to shift, setting the stage for the Battle of Normandy. The first book in a trilogy about the military conflict that defined thetwentieth century, The Rising Tide is an unprecedented and intimate portrait of those who waged this astonishing global war. Praise for The Rising Tide " A sprawling tale thoroughly researched and told withmeticulous detail . . . All that's missing is the smell of gunpowder." -MSNBC online "Masterful." - Publishers Weekly (starred review) " The Rising Tide imparts the actual sights, sounds and dialogue from the grounds of 1940s Sicily and North Africa." - New York Daily News

  • The Rising Tide

I'm only half way thru the book but I'm so glad I bought it. I was ten years old when the war started and didn't pay a lot of atteneion to the news, I am learning so much about what happened then and find the book very interesting. I bought the book because I thought it would give me a better view of the war and I'm finding that to be true. I reccomend this book to anyone interested in the history of our wonderful country.

  • The Rising Tidew/Jeff Shaara

Hard edition. Appears to be a brand new book. Good value. Slow delivery but I forgot the 4th of July Holiday. Can't blame Wonder Books for that.

  • Great book....Jeff Shaara writes with an intriguing, informative style!!

Am enjoying this book very much. I like the author's style of writing...great insight into the personalities involved in real history. I'm looking forward to finishing this one and reading the next in the series. Great buy!!

  • The title didn't mean anything to me

I purchased this book as a Christmas present for my son who has a deep passion for Military History. The author is one of his favorites and he only had one other book by the author so this made a great Christmas present. The title didn't mean anything to me but because of the author and the subject of the book is what sold me.

  • Not compelling or even interesting

I started reading the book in question, but soon became bored and switched to "The Confessions of Nat Turner" by William Styron which is so compelling that it would be impossible to return to reading "The Rising Tide". I will be donating it.
