Pilgrims of the rugged west, Wagon Master leads them
Classic John Ford western, Ben Johnson as the Wagon Master for a wagon train of Mormons led by Ward Bond-likely the inspiration for Bond's Wagon Train TV series. Fighting the elements in their trek to the "promised" land in the west, the rugged pilgrims are joined by family of outlaws using the wagon train as a hideout from a pursuing posse. Western adventure includes Joanne Dru, Harry Carey Jr., veteran actress Jane Darwell and Gunsmoke star James Arness as a big, tough outlaw to be reckoned with. Great film
This is a great film by by the legendary director John Ford. No big stars but members of his stock company. Dobe Carey, Ben Johnson, Ward Bond and Joanne Dru star in this engaging tale of Mormons heading west. A much overlooked and often forgotten classic, of all the films Ford made this was one if his favorites.

Charming movie, well worth the price!
I watched Wagon Train as a kid growing up in the Golden Years of the TV Western, and loved it; still do. I somehow missed this movie, probably because it has never been promoted fairly. It is a joy to watch the character of Major Seth Adams (Ward Bond) born from this movie. Ben Johnson is always fun to watch. (He was an American Cowboy) Even Harry Carey Jr. is a hoot. I wished Ford and other directors would have noticed how good a Western could be without Wayne, Stewart, or some other famous actor as the lead. Worth watching, especially if you love the old 50/60's westerns. P.S. Watch out for a grimy James Arness. Great Classic Western
Wagon Master is the movie that was the inspiration for the TV series Wagon Train. The movie does a great job of conveying the life of a wagon train and the scenes depict it in detail. Great cast. Any western movie lover should enjoy this movie.

Enjoyable!
I’m a van of the old Wagon Train series and Ward Bond in particular. The Wagon Train series is based off this movie and i really enjoyed seeing Ward Bond in his pre Wagon Train days. Ben Johnson and Harry Carey Jr. are in this too.
