Federico Fellini's classic drama, NIGHTS OF CABIRIA, is about a childlike prostitute who remains curiously unsullied by the brutal world she inhabits, even as the love and respectability she seeks elude her. Guilietta Masina plays Cabiria, a wide-eyed waif, a streetwalker living in a poor section of Rome where she owns her own little house, has a bank account, and dreams of a miracle. We follow her nights and days and watch as her boyfriend steals her purse and tosses her in the river, a movie star on the Via Veneto takes her home with him, and she visits the Madonna. When she meets an accountant who watches her act out her heart's longings while under hypnosis on a vaudeville stage, she thinks that at long last she has found her ticket out of the slums. Is it fate that led to their meeting? Is this finally a man who appreciates her for who she is? Is it true love? These suspenseful--and strangely comical--questions that will decide Cabiria's fate once and for all make this film one of Federico Fellini's most haunting works.

All items including squirrel figures are in excellent shape and condition. As if preserved well since 1980. Shipping cost is fair for previous original price, but seller was also excellent for the generous discounted offer. On that note, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to accept such an offer. The shipping was quick and even a little earlier than promised!

High praise for Fellini & Masina
I've introduced several people I know who enjoy Fellini's artistry and appreciate the difference between "cinema" and conventional movies.....and the response to Giulietta Masina's colorful and vibrant portrayal of the naïve but easily lovable Cabiria has always been enthusiastic and welcoming. Cabiria obviously has her rough edges and street-wise bravado....but again, this is certainly part of her undeniable charm. She is the quintessential woman (and heroine) who may sometimes be "down".....but is never, EVER "out". Her trusting nature has lead her to men who have less than pure intentions towards her...and this is how NIGHTS OF CABIRIA begins....and although her immediate reactions to the situation are rather harsh, you just can not help but to take a positive shine to her..... and ... Her trusting nature has lead her to men who have less than pure intentions towards her...and this is how NIGHTS OF CABIRIA begins....and although her immediate reactions to the situation are rather harsh, you just can not help but to take a positive shine to her..... and through the meandering progression of events which follow, it becomes easy to develop a sympathetic liking of this brash and impetuous streetwalker. Fellini's magic however begins to take physical shape when she meets an accountant named Oscar through an unlikely event, and he opens his heart and affections towards Cabiria, who by now has become very suspicious of men's motives. What transpires afterwards is pure Fellini....and THIS is a filmic event NOT to be missed! I highly recommend NIGHTS OF CABIRIA to anyone who has a true appreciation of cinema.

A Gem By Fellini
Nights of Cabiria is another gem by Federico Fellini. The title character is played by Giulietta Masina who is married to director Fellini. As an actress she has the most expressive face reminiscent of Chaplin. I highly recommend this movie. It will move you.

Rome in the 50's is all about the Nightlife
This is a great film. In the USA only the OOP Criterion is the way to see this (unless TCM has a showing). There is a Blu-ray from Europe and another from Japan; hardly something the average film fan will find with ease. Getting a Criterion edition in fine shape for a fair price is a true win. I highly recommend this film. It's an drama about a young prostitute in Rome who is just getting. Yes, a French film set in Italy. Why Not?This is a great film. Nights of Cabiria Criterion Collection OOP
The best Fellini film in my opinion. Giulietta Masina is so wonderful as Cabiria in this film. It’s worth the extra money to spring for this out of print Criterion version of the film as well. It’s absolutely the copy that you want. Plenty of great extras and a quality transfer. Hopefully we’ll see a rerelease on Blu Ray at some point. A beautiful film in so many ways. ❤️
