In the future, pollution and overpopulation are making the Earth uninhabitable. Humanity's only hope is to colonize the planet Mars by using algae to produce oxygen, but when the algae mysteriously disappear, a group of astronauts are sent to Mars on a mission to learn why. The spaceship, led by Commander Kate Bowman (Carrie-Anne Moss), is preparing to land when a sudden emergency forces her to crash-land on the planet without supplies or equipment. The survivors, including systems engineer Gallagher (Val Kilmer) and scientists Burchenal (Tom Sizemore) and Pettengil (Simon Baker), have to figure out how to return to their ship while also learning the truth about the missing algae. As if things weren't bad enough, they have to avoid AMEE, the ship's malfunctioning robot who is trying to kill them all.RED PLANET is an exciting science fiction thriller based on scientific facts, including theoretical notions on how to "terraform" Mars to become inhabitable. The film also provides information about the nuts and bolts of basic space travel. Kilmer and company avoid science fiction clichés to make their Martian adventures more believable, creating a saga of survival under incredible conditions.

Red Planet sets stage on Mars, inhabitable dessert like planet surface. Five team space craft lands after a hard inter landing. The algae which was suppose to support oxygen is not to be. One mechanical buddy will take on life infected from the planets surface throwing a wrench into what seems bleak and mystic. Amee a robotic humanoid trys to kill the crew, they try to disassemble Amee, but the space station that was build is destroyed. These guys are loosing oxygen and soon to die but at the last moment Kilmer takes his helmet off and finds out they all can breath, film was rated 5*****. Rated: PG-13, CC, 106 minute. CAST----- Anne Moss----- Val Kilmer------ Tom Sizemore----- Simon Baker Where did the algae go, a fifty year old probe will need to be used to jump start the craft they ... One last thing, a huge ice storm is approching with 110 winds and -53 F. Excellent film, I really enjoyed plot and acting from all cast. I highly recommend film to anyone into space adventure.

I don't knowe why the pauses
Although all the DVDs I bought from eBay have a slight pause somewhere in them I find them excellent. I am afraid of getting tired of them, as I watch them over-and-over. Red Planet is one of my favorite DVDs of the some-odd 20 I already purchased. I like the robot Aimee, and the computer Luciel on the ship. Val Kilmer was great, and the ending of the movie was the best part. The Martian terrain looked real, which was really cool. I liked the part when the astronauts landed on Mars where the capsule, with air bags, bounced for a long time before stopping. The fight moves by Aimee were unreal, and unbelievable. It reflects on those phoney martial arts movies with special effects. Why did they land 5 astronauts on Mars when only 2 could return? And the only thing brought back from ... Good flick!
Pretty good movie, it was entertaining and interestingly enough it also touches upon faith and human nature.
