Based on the animated television series from Corus Entertainment and Nelvana Limited, Medabots AX: Metabee Ver. focuses on battles between Medabots, the pets of the Medafighters. Players construct and customize Medabots by mixing four "medaparts" (head, left and right arm, and leg) that come in both male and female components. Medaparts are weapons with variable rates of fire or recharging requirements and can be acquired by defeating opponents in battle. In addition to the four parts and frame that make up a Medabot, each pet receives a medal prior to combat, which improves performance by offering healing powers or an additional method of harming an enemy. Robattles consist of two fighters per side. Your Medabot is teamed with a computer-controlled partner, so mixing the right combination of weapons, parts, and medals is key to success. Considerations prior to battle include scouting the environment (factory, polar, seashore, lake, ruins, or forest) and the opponent's weapons, since every part has specific strengths and weaknesses. Medabots are rated in armor, power, speed, efficiency, and number of times a head-part can be used in battle. Medals grow more powerful as Medabots gain experience. To reach the ultimate goal of fighting in the World Robattle Tournament, you must defeat three opponents in each of the six environmental stages. In the tournament, you face off against 15 of the best robattlers in the world, but risk losing medaparts if you fail to win. The significant difference between the Metabee and Rokusho versions of Medabots AX centers on available medaparts, as some are exclusive to each version, though the majority are found in both. This version relates to the main character's Medabot, Metabee, which specializes in long-range and fast-shooting weapons, as opposed to the Rokusho Medabot that prefers the Chanbara Sword and close range attacks.

Crazy awesome and difficult.
I played this game around 13 years ago as a little kid and remember being pretty obsessed with it. It stayed as this repressed memory until it randomly popped into mind. Getting my hands on it, I gotta say that this is game is much longer and more difficult than I remember. This is due to 2 elements. The grand goal of collecting all of the metabot parts and the unforgiving but tense stakes of losing or gaining parts with your wins and losses. This system actually makes the game stressful to play since you get one step further from completing it with every loss. And if you lose all of your parts you get a legitimate game over and start over. But not all parts are equal. In some ways, the match ups can be unfair because some parts are obviously unbalanced. Like the flamethrower arms. They melt you fast, and they stunlock you. The game loves to throw you against these odds, and the smart enemy AI doesn't help either. Usually, after losing so many parts, your losses snowball and you do even worse since the parts you lose are the ones you actually use. It frustrated me to deal with such a mechanic. But at least we've got some mechanics to change the tide of battle. Metaforce. They're powerful special abilities that charge from idling and taking damage. I can't tell you how many times I've made a comeback from near-death against an opponent that should have won, only because of this instant win button. It's not only my win button though. They have it too, and I've equally been screw over by it. So, overall, this was a cool deep dive into nostalgia town. But looking back, I see why I didn't stick with it. This is a hard game. Really hard. You can get good at it and do well, but the rng in the matchmaking and combat, and the high stakes aren't helping you at all. I really doubt anyone has actually completed it 100%. But this would mean playing perfectly and staying lucky

Having just rewatched all of Medabots, I'd decided to pick up the old GBA game since its low price. Medabots: AX is a basic combat Real time RPG, with elements from the show fans can appreciate. The game gives you a decent amount of customization for each medabot with bright graphics. Combat is short and often repetitious once you find a pattern for a certain medafighter. However battles can be intense since it is very easy to get your health knocked down. Finally, the story for this game is almost non-existent. It drops you in right away with no tutorial to the game, leaving you to experiment. This game is fun for a short while as the replay value goes downhill, however it is better than most tv show games. Fun game has a lot of battles to keep you playing. Customize your robot for different types of battling. Plenty of different opponents that fight with multiple tactics. You can win parts and make your robot with assorted combanations great game!
