  • A fun trip back to the "60s, with a message

Anyone who remembers the music of the Sixites probably also remembers the controversy that it aroused among the older and stuffier elements of the world. The howls of execration about how this evil rock and roll was corrupting our youth, bringing about moral decay, and leading to the decline of civilization as we know it! Well in England, ironically the home of the "British Invasion" that defined the era, they did more than just complain. They actually banned it! As the chief government censor says, "That's the point of government....if you don't like something, you can just pass a law making it illegal". Pretty scary thought, and one that says a lot. In response, a group of irreverent DJ's sailed their boat outside the three-mile limit and broadcast ...

  • Great soundtrack, great story, great re-watch

I bought this for a friend. I own a copy myself. Put simply, if you grew up listening to classic rock, its worth your time. On-board what most of us forgot existed, a Pirate Radio Station, British and American Rock excites you throughout the movie. A definite comedy to add to your shelf and watch with friends over and over. The major hits come out at just the right times and you'll want to pull your own records out of storage. Once you watch it through, you'll agree that the director should come out with a new edition that has the deleted scenes inserted, they add even more to the movie. A fun and ear hitting movie that is a definite re-watch.

  • Absolutely enlightening of the 60's era!

This opens with a cast of Phillp Seym. Hoffman and not much else. They're a jolly bunch broadcasting from a ship off the shore of England. Therefore they are not quite under the broadcasting regs. of England. They think they're so cleverly rebellious. Each person is of such a unique character laid out very clearly before you as an audience. I am of the 60's & 70's era and found this 'spot on' as well as informative to what was really happening with Rock & Roll music at it's earliest days of communication to the masses. It was banned over the air waves in merry old England except for 8 hours a day. Those hours being at the regulator's choice of time slot! It's a jolly and carefree banter back & forth the "pirates" ...

  • Pirate Radio

After seeing the movie previews on tv I just knew I had to have this dvd when it was released It's a real blast from the past, with a very interesting chapter in the history of rock n' roll. Pirate Radio was the "illegal" broadcasting off the British Isles during the 60's, for the BBC virtually controlled radio broadcasts. Unlike in America where every city had many radio stations, the BBC only "allowed" one hour a week of rock n' roll. Radio Caroline was probably the most famous of these pirate ships, check out Youtube for more. Overall the acting is great, the music stomps and the ending is surprising..enjoy the ride. P.S. check out the deleted scenes..especially the one labeled The Meaning Of Life..it should of been included in the movie.

  • Pirate Radio (DVD, 2010)

This was a really fun movie. It is about a time in Great Britain, in 1966, when a bunch of "Stuffed Shirts" actually made it a crime to listen to rock music! The BBC controlled all radio transmission, so the only way for modern music to be broadcast was by Pirate Radio. Various ships, and barges would sit at anchor just beyond the three-mile International boundary and broadcast rock music to the British people. This was eventually made a crime under the "Marine Offenses Act", punishable by a Large fine and/or a prison sentence. The movie is about one American and the rest Brits, all of whom are a bunch of characters. This is a laugh a minute story filled with the goofy hysteria of the time and situation. It is loaded with lots of classic rock songs that I haven't ...
