Fun for Pokéfans, pinball with a fun twist!
I recently bought Pokémon Pinball for Nintendo's GameBoy Color system. A little late, I'll admit, but better late than never! I remember seeing this game featured on video game shows about a decade ago, and thinking about how fun it looked. Now I finally got around to finding a copy, and trying it out. Pinball is a classic game, and Pokémon has always had the entertaining theme of "Gotta catch'em all!" Pinball is a game on which one can only spend so many coins at the game corner. After a while, well, it gets kind of old. What I really like about the Pokémon version is that while playing it, when certain conditions are met, a wild Pokémon will appear. The player then has the opportunity to catch that Pokémon and add it to the Pokédex. This twist greatly raises the replay value of ... Another thing I really enjoy is the Rumble Pack. It vibrates when the virtual ball hits the walls of the virtual pinball machine, making the game more interesting. The music is like that in Pokémon Red and Blue: catchy little midi tunes which are repeated until you can't tell where they start or end. The sound effects are simple but they get the job done. The visuals are that of the GameBoy Color. The images on the screen are colourful and interesting; they're just plain fun. While the Pokémon characters do not appear in realistic 3D, you might still find yourself trying to tilt the pinball machine or nudge the ball along. As far as controls go, you really only need to press two buttons, and you can set it up so that they're whichever two buttons you want. So the game is super easy to control. One thing I think should be mentioned in a game review is the story line. And well, Pokémon Pinball has no story whatsoever, unless of course you count filling the Pokédex; but while this relates to the theme's main story, it doesn't affect gameplay all that much. You can play pinball regardless of whether or not you caught the Pokémon that appeared in the last round. All in all, this game is a great mix of a classic game and a classic series. Out-dated means nothing to Pokémon Pinball because it is a simple game which does not rely on the latest technology to provide quality entertainment. It is a great pick up and play game for when you just want to have a quick round. The opportunity to fill up the Pokédex makes the Pinball game even more addicting, and the Rumble feature adds another dimension to get you up close and personal with your favourite Pokémon. So get yourself to a flea market or classic video game store and pick yourself up a copy! =D

Good Game, Great Throwback
Used to play this as a kid, so this had some nostalgic value to me specifically. But the game is great, there are only 2 different playing fields, but catching Pokemon and going for high scores is still hours of fun. Would certainly recommend at this price. Also worth noting: -it doesn't come with a battery cover (it looks like it had one originally). Battery still stays in place just fine, so no real issue there. -Mine came with a preexisting fame file, it IS possible to erase the game data through a combination of buttons. (Just Google if you're interested)Used to play this as a kid, so this had some nostalgic value to me specifically. Pokemon for the Pre-Literate Child!
Recently my nephew and I purchased the latest new Pokemon titles for GBA and Nintendo DS. My kindergarten-age niece has also begun to enjoy her hand-me-down Game Boy Advance, and she wanted a Pokemon game too. The problem is that most Pokemon games require a fair amount of literacy and strategic knowledge. They're more appropriate to children from ages 8-11 (and still enjoyable to aunties age 46!) So what to do? Our local game-shop owner recommended Pokemon Pinball. This game requires minimal explanation for the little ones, and it has the fun "tumbling" effect built into the cartridge. (My niece, who enjoys games like "Wario Ware Twisted" and "Kirby Twist and Tumble", likes games with a kinetic component.) My niece really loves this game. ... The kinetic component is not as central as in the other games that I mentioned, but it adds more fun to the already-enticing Pokemon mystique. I'm recommending this highly as a first Pokemon game for young children. It's a nice thing to buy for the little ones, when the older siblings are purchasing the more complex GameBoy and GameCube games. Note: However, as a pinball- or kinetic-genre game, it will be disappointing for older Mario/Wario fans.

Classic Pinball, Poketastic twist
There are other pinball games but this one I love because of Pokemon. Gameplay is really fun and I had a nostalgic feeling playing with it and seeing the first generation pokemon in action. It doesn't offer much but once you play it, you'll love it.
