A solid beginning....
This is the first season of James Cameron's (and let's not forget that fact) Dark Angel. Let's simply move past the obvious attractiveness of Jessica Alba in tight leather fighting people and look at the actual show. Besides the not so smooth start that any show faces there is a lot of potential here. The characters, other than Alba, start off as one dimensional tag-alongs but develop pretty well throughout the season. The storyline is well developed and the plot plays well from episode to episode. The season ends with a super, maybe even over, twisted ending. There are faults, like a poorly developed love interest and in the beginning the series seriously trys too hard to incorporate "hip hop" (quote from creators as funny as that sounds) language and sometimes the conversations can ... Jessica Alba at her best.
Jessica Alba at her best. Well, maybe except for Sin City. The story is prophetic science fiction about the aftermath of the financial meltdown of the economy in the US and the corruption that fills the voids in almost every segment of society. Add a genetically altered child who escapes from a secret government lab and grows up in this dark, harsh society, and you have a dark political and societal action series with enough low-key humor to keep the whole thing from from getting too serious. The first season is far superior to the second, in which the series tends to sacrifice elements of the dark theme for a more colorful and bizarre one. Despite good ratings and a loyal following the series was probably canceled by FOX in 2002 in the aftermath of 911 in part for it's anti-government ... Jessica Alba at her best. A Great TV Show
This was a great, short lived TV show. Lasting only two seasons but loaded with action, romance, comedy, and proto-type humans. Max (played my Jessica Alba) is a genetically engendered girl who is just trying to survive in the world. Max AKA 452 and Logan AKA eyes only are great characters that find each other then try to work with each other (doesn't always work out). While Max is trying to find her "brothers and sisters" she is able to help a lot of people along the way with help from Logan. Did I mention The Pulse happened and changed the world (most electronically devices were no longer usable). It's a great TV show and if you like Sci-Fi, I would suggest you see Dark Angel.This was a great, short lived TV show. Dark Angel
I enjoyed this series when it was on television. Now my whole family watches the dvds. There is constant action with definite strong female role types. My youngest loves that "DiNozzo" of NCIS plays Logan. The backstory of the Pulse that destroyed computer information and was the downfall of the US is hard to defend to a curious 14-year old. However, it is good food for thought... What would happen if suddenly all those zeros and ones that represent our money was just was gone? Max's world in Dark Angel is one possiblity. Max, with her genetically enhanced capabilities, Robin Hood tendencies, strength and vulnerability along with Logan the "last free voice" add a positive note to what would be an oppresive environment. Max's friends also show how life goes on and how people tend ... I enjoyed this series when it was on television. Now my whole family watches the dvds.
