Product Information

Turn back your biological clock. A breakthrough book for men--as much fun to read as it is persuasive--Younger Next Year draws on the very latest science of aging to show how men 50 or older can become functionally younger every year for the next five to ten years, and continue to live like fifty-year-olds until well into their eighties. To enjoy life and be stronger, healthier, and more alert. To stave off 70% of the normal decay associated with aging (weakness, sore joints, apathy), and to eliminate over 50% of all illness and potential injuries. This is the real thing, a program that will work for anyone who decides to apply himself to "Harry's Rules." Harry is Henry S. Lodge, M.D., a specialist in internal medicine and preventive healthcare. Chris Crowley is Harry's 70-year-old patient who's stronger today (and skiing better) than when he was 40. Together, in alternating chapters that are lively, sometimes outspoken, and always utterly convincing, they spell out Harry's Rules and the science behind them. The rules are deceptively simple: Exercise Six Days a Week. Eat What You Know You Should. Connect to Other People and Commit to Feeling Passionate About Something. The science, simplified and demystified, ranges from the molecular biology of growth and decay to how our bodies and minds evolved (and why they fare so poorly in our sedentary, all-feast no-famine culture). The result is nothing less than a paradigm shift in our view of aging. Welcome to the next third of your life--train for it, and you'll have a ball.

"An extraordinary book . . . it is easy to read, the science is right, and if one follows Henry Lodge's and Chris Crowley's recommendations, both mental and physical aging can be delayed. I wish my patients would follow their advice." -- K. Craig Kent, M.D., chief of vascular surgery, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, "An extraordinary book . . . it is easy to read, the science is right, and if one follows Henry Lodge's and Chris Crowley's recommendations, both mental and physical aging can be delayed. I wish my patients would follow their advice." - K. Craig Kent, M.D., chief of vascular surgery, New YorkPresbyterian Hospital, "One of our highest recommendations so far on growing old gracefully . . . Dr. Lodge, a prominent M.D., focuses on developments in cellular and evolutionary biology. Crowley, his guinea pig, is a firm believer in Dr. Lodge's science and very good at convincing the reader that, if you're a fifty-year-old man, you'd be an idiot not to start following the rules as soon as possible. . . . Should be read avidly by anyone growing older as well as forward-thinking youngsters." -- Kirkus Reports, An extraordinary book . . . it is easy to read, the science is right, and if one follows Henry Lodges and Chris Crowleys recommendations, both mental and physical aging can be delayed. I wish my patients would follow their advice. K. Craig Kent, M.D., chief of vascular surgery, New YorkPresbyterian Hospital

  • Live right

The book provides very good guidelines for eating healthy and also exercising to be healthy from a physical fitness perspective. The authors do an excellent job of explaining how the body functions in relation to diet and exercise. I believe that anyone who really wants to be healthy in later years can learn a lot from this book. In a month I have lost 12 pounds and feel a lot better. I have much more energy and I am sleeping better at night also. I have given several copies to my friends and some have joined me in exercising on a regular basis. It is definitely easier to develop and stick to a routine if you have others to help hold you accountable. In conclusion I highly recommend buying this book if you are serious about living a healthier lifestyle.

  • Book Review

If you are getting older and your body and mind are not working like they should this is a pretty good book. If you follow what the book says it will make you feel better and be more healthy. There were a few opinions that I did not totally agree with and thus the 4 stars. Good diet tips and the thing they do not make a pill for (excercise) .

  • Younger Next Year

Actually, I first read this book four years ago, and it encouraged me to start and stick to an exercise. I had taken it out of the library. Of course, I bought this copy. I am still exercising!

  • Younger Next Year

Here is a book written by the man who is living the process. He went from an aging out of shape former "jock" to a man in his 70's living and feeling better than most men who could "chronologically" be his children. It is written as if you were two guys who hung out together, in plain "guy" language, not medical speak or as a literati speaking to those beneath him. If you want to turn the aging process around, and your life, then you NEED this book! It won't be easy, but it will be worth it! Buy this book!

  • discipline is freedom

Excellent resource for our aging population. Not just for older people...even middle age & below. Common sense and wisdom for those who are thinkers and have the discipline required. Highly recommend this book!!!
