Disappointing...a quick read lacking substance
The price was the main thing that was right for the quick one night read this book was. It seemed as though each of the Month's chronicled were summed up quickly in this book, and it was not quite the adventurous debauchery the liner notes had hinted to. Each month came across a weekend summary. And if you have pictures, you need not 'protect the innocent' and not attach the pics to coincide with the chapters ("characters"). Sadly, the 'best' anecdotes were the descriptions of how decrepid Mr. Navarro became during the lowest part of his addiction. I was also disappointed that Dave and his cowriter added an unneccessary chapter about his dating/marrying Carmen Electra much later... I feel they should have also appended for that not lasting too. Not a book for me
I would not recomend this book. I originally purchased a book titled The Game by Neil Strauss (same Author) and loved it. I was hoping this book would stir the same passion in me. It did not. I am very disappointed in the Authors subject choice. I hope the Author can pick a different subject next time. Maybe hedonistic adventures in a tropical location. Perhaps pick a musician that does not inspire drug use to an audience of drug users. This book is very dark. I had more indifference to Dave Navaro than appreciation before buying this book. I was hoping to change my opinion with this read. After reading part of it I do not care for him as a person and have little respect for him as a musician. When a musicians drug use receives more value than there artistic endeavors I loose alot of the ... I would not recomend this book. Good Read
I am a fan of Dave Navarro. I thought the book would be interesting, and it was. It was well written, and I read it in less than two days.
