  • Great Book for Sewists

I already knew this was a good book because I had gotten it out of the library. Very thorough and clear instructions. Takes your sewing to the next level!

  • Very good book about embellishment

This book can help you put professional touches on your sewing projects. It has excellent, low-cost ways to do it and do it well. What it does not have are basic sewing tips, fitting, setting in sleeves, etc. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a sewing machine and all those extra feet. It will explain what to do with them. This version is the first version. There is a second edition which has a few more techniques. I've seen it. But this one had the ones I was looking for, hemstitching and faggoting.

  • From someone new to sewing

As someone new to sewing, I found the book was useful immediately. After reading the Introduction, I went to the chapter on features to look for in a machine and tips on maintenance (Hey, I'm a man and men do this). After learning that my machine had 90% of the features recommended, I dove into chapter 1. The discussion, examples, and pictures really hit a middle ground between those who are very experienced and those who are quite new. I didn't understand everything I read, but the exposure to the subject was my goal. Going back to read the book again and again is really the best approach to absorbing the knowledge it contains. The book is well worth the investment.

  • Great Must Have Book!

Ms Ahles does a wonderful job of describing what sewing machine feet you need to use and what stitches to achieve different effects. Creative uses of basic household objects like a coffee stirrer stick to make sure your sewing is correct and a pin & cork for perfect circles! WONDERFUL IDEAS. She is also very good at pointing out possible trouble spots and how to correct the problem. This is one of the best books I've read on achieving finishing touches by machine. A Must Have for those wanting to advancing their sewing skills beyond the basics! Book is worth every penny you pay for it. I will use it for heirloom sewing for a granddaughter - and now for myself!

  • The Most Useful Sewing Book

This excellent book is a MUST for all types of sewers. This is not a fussy book written just for fussy sewers using fancy schmancy machines! (Although it could be their bible!) It discusses features on all brands and types of machines, and tells you how to get the best out of the simplest 2 stitch (straight and zig zag) machine (making you feel prudent and practical, not poor or pitiful) or how to optimize your use of the fanciest computerized model. The section on alternate uses for feet is worth the price of admission. And THEN, she shows the best heirloom sewing techniques.
