À propos de ce produit

Product Information

"Can't cook but doesn't bite." So begins the newspaper ad offering the services of an "A-1 housekeeper, sound morals, exceptional disposition" that draws the attention of widower Oliver Milliron in the fall of 1909. That unforgettable season deposits the ever-whistling Rose Llewellyn and her font-of-knowledge brother, Morris Morgan, in Marias Coulee along with a stampede of homesteaders drawn by the promise of the Big Ditch--a gargantuan irrigation project intended to make the Montana prairie bloom. When the schoolmarm runs off with an itinerant preacher, Morris is pressed into service, setting the stage for the "several kinds of education"--none of them of the textbook variety--Morris and Rose will bring to Oliver, his three sons, and the rambunctious students in the region's one-room schoolhouse. "Flawless...The Whistling Season is a book that strives for more than beauty, which it achieves, it reaches for joy."--O, the Oprah Magazine

PRAISE FOR IVAN DOIG "The reigning master of new Western literature . . . [Doig is] bigger than the Big Sky. He stands upon the shoulders of Wallace Stegner and A. B. Guthrie, taller than Edward Abbey and Tom McGuane, and sees much farther. He looks homeward, and he sees a place in all our minds, not just those who live in and write about the West."--San Francisco Chronicle --, PRAISE FOR THE WHISTLING SEASON"Flawless . . . • Beautifully written book

I bought this book to read with my Book Club. It is not a book I would have chosen otherwise, but I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read it. It is beautifully written, although it took me a while to get into the rhythm of the author. Once I did, however, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has many interesting and memorable characters, and you won't soon forget the story. I highly recommend this book.

  • The Whistling Season

This story captured my attention from the beginning. Well developed and strong characters, excellent!

  • Outstanding read!

This book was given to me by a friend. I couldn't put it down after the first page. If you liked A PAINTED HOUSE or WATER FOR ELEPHANTS or WISH YOU WELL, you will love this book. This is a book that has a beautiful ending, but leaves you sad after turning the last page because there's no more. I envy new and future readers of this book their beautiful journey.

  • loved this book

Loved the book. Was very interesting. Someone suggested it as good reading. Now I can agree. Would like to see this author in the E books for free. That is all I need to say.
