In Her Shoes
Maggie befriends one of her patients, a blind retired professor of English literature has asked Maggie to read works of poetry to him. She does so, but with great difficulty. After asking if she is dyslexic, the professor encourages Maggie to continue reading to him while offering emotional support to her. Maggie finds a friend in the professor, the first person in her life who does not ridicule her difficulties with reading, and actually helps her to improve in this area. As time passes with the professor, Maggie's confidence grows not only with reading but with her general image of herself. In addition, she also becomes friendly with the residents of the retirement community. In doing so, Maggie discovers a livelihood that is greatly needed among the elderly women, a personal clothing ... "In Her Shoes" is an enjoyably entertaining comedy/drama featuring a number of topflight performances and some hilarious dialogue.

This is a movie about two sisters who have nothing in common, yet are still best friends. Maggie is wild and spontanious and a pain in the butt. She just can't settle down and keep a job. Her sister Rose (played by Toni Collette), is the opposite. She is a successful lawyer and quite uptight. Maggie does something awful to her sister and they have a fight. After she leaves she travels to meet her long lost grandmother that they didn't know was still alive. There she straightens her life out and her sister finds herself as well.This is a movie about two sisters who have nothing in common, yet are still best friends. A product which met my needs exactly and at the right price!
I purchased this movie when I found it because it fit in nicely with National Assisted Living Week for which I was looking for some movies to show to my neighbors and myself (we are residents in an Assisted Living Home). I guess what I liked most about it was that it was a story about the life of a girl who was having difficulties finding her niche in life since she had not been a brilliant student in school and was lacking in job-related skills. When she visited her grandmother (played by Shirley MacLaine, one of my favorite actresses) in an Assisted Living Community in Florida, she not only found a productive niche for herself but she also met a gentleman who was able to help her understand that she had not been dumb in school. She had experienced (as so many children have ... I purchased this movie when I found it because it fit in nicely with National Assisted Living Week for which I was looking for some movies to show to my neighbors and myself (we are residents in an Assisted Living Home). She had experienced (as so many children have experienced) living and trying with undiagnosed Learning Disabilities for which she had not received the proper academic interventions that would have helped her achieve on a higher lever in classrooms. It was a wonderful presentation of that situation and of how she was able to become a productive member of the work force because she related well to senior citizens. I don't think I disliked anything about it, and I would buy it again in a minute.

Loved the novel, so I thought I'd get the movie, and it was just as good. Loved the characters and the engaging scenes.
