Product Information

Billed as "the ultimate parody of anime," EXCEL SAGA certainly goes out of its way to satirize genre conventions. From the cloying J-pop opening, it's clear that this series' sole aim is to be a good-natured farce, one that revolves around a main character who, on the surface, is not much different from any other anime heroine. But it soon becomes clear that the key difference between Excel and all those who preceded her is that she is completely and utterly insane and considers it her prerogative to conquer the city of F, leading to bizarre altercations with Martian princesses, afro-wearing action heroes, mysterious government agencies, space butlers, deranged comic book authors, annoying roommates, and removable moustaches, among other things. The wacky series is presented in its entirety with this collection of episodes.

Excel Saga - Complete and Thin
Excel Saga is a massively insane anime where gags and random humor are the only constants. Though the series first appeared around 2000 and has had a previous complete collection release, this is the first time it has appeared as a thinpack collection. The advantage to this is that it takes up less space and has unique box art. The disadvantage, however, is that there are no special features. If special features don't matter to you as much as having a compact collection of the whole series, the thinpack is exactly what you need. For those who have not ever seen Excel Saga, especially fans of anime, it should not be missed. Actually, the more of an anime fan you are, the better this series is for you, as it heavily satirizes anime throughout the series. But even without an anime ... After all, who wouldn't love a show where the main characters keep dying, and the main character is sent to assassinate the manga artist that originally drew her!? There are a few things to be weary of concerning Excel Saga, though. Firstly, it is rated for Mature audiences. The content is usually still passable on some level for the 14+ range, but there are a number of episodes that push or exceed many borders of television decency. Much of the humor in Excel Saga is rather random and at some points may become easy to miss. Occasionally, the hyperactive, fast-paced voicing may seem rather obnoxious, and it is easy to miss a lot of punchlines because of this. If a hyper-pace doesn't suit you, you may want to abstain from the whole series, but maybe stick with just few episodes. Overall, this complete collection is well put-together. The image quality and menus look extremely polished. If there is one outstanding quality to this collection, it is it's stylish presentation. Excel Saga is sure to induce feelings of ecstasy into any anime fan. Do remember, though, that if mature-rated humor is not your preference, Excel saga may only irritate you.

Based on the manga by Koshi Rikdo (which I also suggest you read) it follows the group ACROSS as they try to conquer the city of F City F Prefecture. The team consits of hyperactive Excel, sickly Hyatt, emergency food Menchi the dog, and imcompetent leader Illpalazo. While Excel Saga is very funny it has a few downfalls. One is that only people who have anime fans for awhile will want to watch this. Excel makes fun of various anime and for some the jokes fall flat. Also after so many episodes the jokes tend to get repetetive. Luckily the show is still funny and original. This is recommended to any anime fan who loves a good laugh. If you are looking for a anime that shows u to the edge of sanity and then pushes u to go a few more steps, Excel Saga is the anime for u.Being edgy and full of obvious parodies like the Daitenzen rangers, Excel Saga doesnt give a second thought to raunchy humor or pokeing fun of everything within its reach. The only problem that ive seen is Excel Saga is something that has to be taken in moderation, an overload leaves u feeling slightly numb.If you are looking for a anime that shows u to the edge of sanity and then pushes u to go a few more steps, Excel Saga is the anime for u.Being edgy and full of obvious parodies like the Daitenzen rangers, Excel Saga doesnt give a second thought to raunchy humor or pokeing fun of everything within its reach.
