THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW premiered in 1960 and, featuring one of the most beloved television fathers of all time, quickly charmed its way into the hearts of audiences. Set in the fictitious environs of Mayberry, North Carolina, the series chronicles daily life in that peaceful Southern hamlet through the gently humorous eyes of town sheriff Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith). A widower raising his young son, Opie (a pre-HAPPY DAYS Ron Howard), with the help of his live-in spinster aunt, Bee (Frances Bavier), Andy capably navigates single parenthood with the same goodhearted wisdom that he brought to his law enforcement duties--that is, when he wasn't being hampered by the fidgety, bug-eyed antics of his bungling deputy sheriff, Barney Fife (Don Knotts). The Andy Experience!
I know it's before my time, but I used to watch reruns of Andy Griffith when I was a kid. I fell in love with him then, and my feelings toward it have only grown. I have the first 4 seasons, and when I got done watching them all, I just had to have the 5th, so here I am. This show takes you back to a day where BIG problems are actually nothing on todays scale of difficulties. Also, kids were kids and adults were adults. The kids didn't run the show, and parents didn't give in to every whim of the child. Families were close, friends were close, and in a small town such as this, gossip was there, but it was innocent and funny. Everyone was there to back you. I know that if I had lived in this time, I would be quite elderly, or even gone from here, now. But I just wish I could find a little ... I know that if I had lived in this time, I would be quite elderly, or even gone from here, now. But I just wish I could find a little town where the values were such that the biggest crime might be a boy breaking a street lamp to impress his friends, or a jay walker might be taken in by "The Barn." People don't always seem to really like people anymore. I'm not saying everyone, for sure. There are beautiful and wonderful people everywhere, even now. I know many. But you could do more for each other then. Even little things meant so much. I guess my biggest love of this day is time. Time went on and on because people weren't rushing like they do now. There were always times where Aunt Bea had to rush a bit to get her homemade pickles to the fair contest for judging, or Opie had to run because he was late for school, but picture it: Sunday morning, get up, eat breakfast together as a family, walk to church, greeting people on the street as you go, never worrying that anyone would give you the cold shoulder....sit and listen to the preacher, nudging the codger next to you because he kept falling asleep, and then everyone gathering outside the church to talk and watch the kids run around and play and get their Sunday clothes dirty. Then you walk home, where a huge dinner is still slow cooking in the oven, the fragrance hitting your nose as you turn down your street. Everyone gets together in the afternoon to eat and talk and laugh, then you sit on the front porch in the late afternoon talking about fishing and telling old jokes your grandpa used to tell when you were kids. After a while some take a walk, go wading in the creek or make homemade ice-cream, while others fall asleep in the afternoon sun. In the evening, you have a snack while someone sings in the cooler night air, and when you finally head up to bed you feel so relaxed and calm after that wonderful "take it easy" day that you just know the week ahead is going to be wonderful. I'm sorry, but to me, it sounds so much more amusing than everyone running this way and that all week, just to turn around and do it all again the whole weekend. There's never enough time anymore to do everything we need to get done. I guess the innocence, the corny jokes and the moral lessons are just a few reasons why I watch it. When I sit down to an episode or five, (hehehe), I just absolutely love the mini vacation it gives my mind. I have 5 kids, and there isn't one who isn't into modern music, computers, video games and the stress of an overload of homework. But I also don't have one that can pass through our living room and not stop to watch a minute or two of Andy and Barney's shananigans. And 9 times out of 10, if they watch a couple minutes, they watch til' the end. It's great!!! If you haven't tried it yet, I suggest you do!!!

All hail Mayberry!!!!!
I am currently watching these episodes of The Andy Griffith show season 5. I love them-visiting Mayberry is like old friends. Very Comforting. I am giving this product an 'excellent' rating for many reasons. I love the fact that this DVD collection is still in black & white. It really brings me back to the care-free days of my childhood where many programs were still this way. I love the morality & spirituality of Mayberry and it's residents. They are often seen praising God, going to Church, and praying together-I Love It! Lastly this show has great principals: I do not have to worry about my children watching. There's basically no violence,no profanity,no unhealthy sensuality, right is right, and wrong is wrong. Do I wish we all could live in Mayberry for it's simple,sweet life-Amen!I am currently watching these episodes of The Andy Griffith show season 5. I love them-visiting Mayberry is like old friends. The Andy Griffith Show, Season Five
This was a great show on TV when I was growing up. Wish we had more TV shows like this now on TV. Too much reality shows and talk shows in place of it now. Would highly recommend getting this show to watch for your kids. Takes you back to when life was normal in society, and things were much more simple. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Andy Griffith Fifth season complete DVD boxed set
Even though I've taped all of the shows directly from my tv over the years, I LOVE having the DVD's because I get to see so many scenes that I've NEVER seen aired before. It's like watching a brand new show! (almost). Any fan of the old Mayberry, Andy Griffith, shows just HAS to own the DVD's. I would say that a good 3 to 5 minutes of never before scenes are revealed in almost every episode. Of course there's the added clarity in each scene, too. Sometimes that can be a bit of a let down, like when you see an actor's mark on the rug, or a missing button on a shirt. The producers of the show didn't spend a lot on props and in the DVD's you begin to notice things like the use of the same green bedspread in several different homes. But overall, for the added footage alone, the DVD's are a ... The Andy Griffith Show season 5 a true classic!
The Andy Griffith Show takes us back to a simpler time when the little things meant a lot, courtesy and respect were common, and innocence was to be treasured and protected. This fifth season was Barney's last with the show. Bummer things don't always work out like they should, but having these shows immortalizes the essence of America.
