Daiwa SS1300 Spinning Reel Excellent for Texas Bay Fishing
The new manufactured Daiwa SS1300 reels are made in Thailand not Japan as the earlier 1980/90's ones I've used in the past. I bought this one because I couldn't believe they were still manufactured and wanted to see if anything had changed. Comparing this reel with the rest of the earlier SS1300's showed that the new reel is tighter with much less wobble in the spool when reeled compared to the primary one I used for 31 years and a bit tighter than the older new ones I kept in reserve just in case something happened to the primary one. I never had to replace the primary reel even when I wade fished Aransas and Corpus Christi bays an hour before sunrise and an hour after sunset for fishing trips which sometimes lasted several days over the years. They're an excellent reel for Texas bay ... The new manufactured Daiwa SS1300 reels are made in Thailand not Japan as the earlier 1980/90's ones I've used in the past. At the time, it was the best light tackle saltwater spinning reel and it never gave up anything to bigger saltwater reels and definitely outlasted them with minimum maintenance.

Daiwa 13000 SS - The Greatest Light to Medium Light In Shore Saltwater Spinning Reel
I used the SS 1300 for wade fishing for speckled trout, red fish, flounder, sheephead, drum, . . . on Texas's Aransas Bay and Corpus Christi Bay flats during the 1980s - 2000s . It is a simple designed light spinning reel that casts great with all the controls you need readily at hand for use. I had used the SS 1600 and SS 2600 too but settled on the SS 1300 for all my fishing. Took care to rinse it with fresh water after each outing and then strip it down partially to clean/lubricate it after each 2-3 day fishing trip. The wade fishing outings on the flats lasted all day - an hour before light and an hour after dark during the spring - summer - fall. The most tiring fishing I have ever done - the hardest day whitetail deer hunting didn't compare to the easiest day wade fishing the ... ahh, what can i say about diawa ss tournement reels? oh...i can say alot!
I have used ss1300 tournament reels for over 28 years. (1300's, 1600's and 2600's) I am just a die hard fishermen. (so lets get that out of the way) there are not to many people you will meet that will have used this item as much as I have.) thousands if not hundreds of thousands of kings, silvers, chum, sockeye, steelhead and large trout. (you ever landed 6 halibut in 100 feet of water each one over 60 pounds with one of these reels? well I have.) in my opinion these reels are one of the finest reels on the market for the money hands down. I would add to that and say they are also one of the most bullet proof, durable reels ever made for salt water spinning. lets talk about the "whys" of it....I would put these reels up against reels costing 3 times as much and if I was a gambling ... ( I always tighten the screw at the bail arm when I get a new one, sometimes they are not tight enough) after you do that they will never fail you. the spool....these reels lay the line on the spool at a 6degree criss cross pattern. (why is this important? ever had a king or silver that is 20 plus pounds of fighting furry make a lunge so hard it sinches your line down into the line on a spool creating a pulsing action to the drag that makes the line break? most spinning reels will do that and many fish are lost.) this reel ossilates the line laying it in a 6 degree cris sross so that the line can never get cinched into the spool. the difference between these and other reels in just that category alone is striking. I just do not loose big fish with these and my drag is even and controlled. they are smooth and light for a spinning reel as well. I have landed well over 10,000 kings on just one of the 2600 reels some pushing 55 pounds. (and this is from shore, not in a boat) ever try to stop a 40 pound king on a spinning rod from shore? how good are these reels? they are the only spinning reels I will own. I have over a dozen of each size. (I am not connected with diawa in any way. I say this as a loyal customer and ss tournements number one biggest fan.) you want a killer reel? take it from a legend (that's me) place your order and step into the light. craig stevens

The best reel for Steelhead and Trout .
This is the best reel for Steelhead and Trout that you can buy, I've been using the ss1300 reels for 25 years of hard fishing and I'm just replacing them now.... They work in freezing temperatures when you hook into a 17 lb steelie it performs...It has the extra large drag washers that allows the pressure to remain even and stable ...... No need to take your gloves off in freezing cold weather to use it either...... going on a remote fishing trip these are the reels I pack....This is the best reel for Steelhead and Trout that you can buy, I've been using the ss1300 reels for 25 years of hard fishing and I'm just replacing them now.... They work in freezing temperatures when you hook into a 17 lb steelie it performs...It has the extra large drag washers that allows the pressure to remain even and stable ...... No need to take your gloves off in freezing cold weather to use it either...... going on a remote fishing trip these are the reels I pack....
