Salma Hayek is hotter than the movie itself.
This movie is alittle weird in its story line. Kinda boring. However, Salma Hayek is hot in this. First and only movie that I know of in which she appears full nude. The title has nothing to do with the movie content. Colin Farrell's character is wishy-washy. One second he wants nothing to do with Salma...the next he is all over her. His character makes the story uninteresting. Ebert and Roeper gave it two thumbs up.....but I wouldn't. I bought it because I'm a Salma Hayek fan. Excellent Sleeper Film , ASK THE DUST
( 8 February 2 0 0 9 , Sunday ) - - ASK THE DUST never appeared on - screen in the multiplex near my home ( BAKERSFIELD , CALIFORNIA ) and I knew I would want to see it ; I found out about the film when I saw director ROBERT TOWNE interviewed by Charlie Rose. Towne excels at this era of screen - writing ( America , 1 9 3 0 ' s and ' ' 4 0 ' s - - see CHINATOWN and THE TWO JAKES ) and ASK THE DUST pays homage to the works of the late JOHN FANTE . Terrific cast ( COLLIN FARRELL , SALMA HAYEK , DONALD SUTHERLAND , JUSTIN KIRK ) and a poignant take on racism , romance , the Depression - - ASK THE DUST never gets old , makes for enjoyable viewing even after the second time . Shamefully underrated , an achievement for the venerable Towne , a reminder that Fante ' s novels received too little ... Ask the Dust
The reason I bought this, is because most of the movie was shot in Cape Town South Africa, and my husband and his friends were driving the vintage cars in the LA street scenes and the forest scenes so the film has a special meaning for us. A local High School rugby field was converted into the LA street scene, with the tram (which was built here) - the props were all brought to SA from USA - and the set was amazing - so enjoyed visiting the set which was so authentic. The antiques brought to CT were fantastic, and some not obtainable in South Africa. When viewing the DVD we found the story not very exciting, and slow moving and predictable. Not a movie we would have gone to see on circuit, had it been released on circuit!!
