Good fun for kids and adults alike!!
I would like to preface this by declaring that I am a life long Star Wars fan. I would also like to say that I am an adult fan who is well versed in Star Wars expanded universe comics, novels, and games. That being said I must admit I ignored this book series due to the "scholastic" or young reader designation. However, after reading many other reviews I decided to give this book a try. Ater reading it I was pleasantly suprised! At no time during this story did I feel like I was reading a "kiddy" book. Furthermore, I thought the author got the characters and pacing right. Most important it felt like Star Wars, which is no easy to do, as other failed Star Wars novels have proved! It also does a good job filling in the "little known" early life of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Been searching for these for a while now.
These books are what started my love of reading. When I was younger I had trouble reading and none of my teachers really cared. When I changed schools in 3rd grade I went to the librarian at my new school and asked for help. She asked me about my interests and found these for me. They were just the right level to challenge me without leaving me discouraged and the subject kept me engaged. I fell in love with the series and reading itself. I've found my self looking back lately and thinking of these books. With the new Disney canon I couldn't find any at the big bookstores so I looked here and to my delight found them. And I was so happy when they arrived. They're well loved, but still in pretty good condition. I find that adds character.These books are what started my love of reading. Great Stories. Somewhat Intense.
I have three boys ages 7, 10, 11 and they love these stories as I read them out loud to them. The 7 year old isn't as interested but the 10 and 11 are locked in. We are into book 3 right now. Great stories, especially if you love Obi-wan or Qui-Gon Jin. There are some intense battle things and mild/moderate torture elements that I will often modify or de-intensify a bit but overall they are really great. The Rising Force by Dave Wolverton
Great book. I ran out of adult SW novels to read, so I started picking up the kids versions. I chose this one because I just finished putting together a replica of the saber on the cover. The writing was a little simpler because its a kids book, but I found it to be just as entertaining as the adult novels.
