Product Information

Billy Wilder's adaptation of Samuel Taylor's romantic comedy stars Audrey Hepburn in the title role. The daughter of the chauffeur (John Willliams) of the wealthy Larabee family, she becomes infatuated with the rakish, younger brother David (William Holden), while spying on their lavish parties as a teenager. Her father sends her to school in Paris to forget her romantic angst, but upon her return, the now fashionable young woman has suddenly become irresistible to David. Since his father and older brother Linus (Humphrey Bogart), who runs the family business, have engineered his forthcoming marriage to a wealthy heiress (Martha Hyer), they attempt to derail Sabrina's romance with David. To cool his brother's ardor, Linus temporarily puts David out of commission and begins dating Sabrina simply to distract her, but of course it's he who becomes distracted. When David recovers from his injury and learns that Sabrina is now interested in her brother, the festivities begin. Hepburn, the ultimate ingenue, defines charm in this pleasant comic diversion.

Sabrina is a tender story of a chauffeur's daughter who has grown up over the garage of a grand estate in Long Island. All of her life she has been madly in love with David, the youngest son of the Larabee Family. David however, is the philandering rich-kid who lives his life one day and one romance at a time and doesn't even know that Sabrina exists. The Larabee's are known for their grand parties, all of which Sabrina has viewed from high in a tree, but never in person. She constantly watches David as he charms and romances the numerous local debutantes, always wishing that it was she. When Sabrina travels to Paris to attend cooking school in order to be trained as a household domestic, she pines away constantly thinking of nothing but David, who, as usual, is also thinking of nothing ... The thin, stringy, little girl with ugly hair and glasses, now returns as a beautiful, cosmopolitan, and suffistocated young woman. David, of course, is engaged to be married. . .again! He sees her in town and offers her a ride. . .not having the slightest idea who she is. . .and is instantly smitten when he finds out that she is Sabrina. Of course, the Larabee family goes crazy when they get wind that David, so smitten with Sabrina, is having second thoughts, and is about to call off the wedding to his fiancee. . .who by-the-way is the heiress and vital element to a billion dollar merger between Larabee Industries and her family's firm. As the result of an injury to David (who cut up his butt when he sat on two champagne flutes), Linus, (David's older brother and director of Larabee Industries) takes over and begins to try to woo Sabrina in an effort to take her away from David and protect the merger. His plan was to make her fall in love with him and then convince her to go away with him to France and then leave her, but when "push-came-to-shove", Linus realized that he was truly in love with Sabrina. In a final act of conscience, Linus is too decent to go through with his plan and tells Sabrina the truth. Heart-broken, Sabrina accepts the boat ticket and decides to leave alone. Linus tells David the truth and encourages him to follow his heart and go after Sabrina. David, however sees that Linus and Sabrina are truly in love, and unknown to Linus, doesn't go, but instead decides to be a grown-up and go through with the original plan to marry his fiancee, who he really does love. The story ends with Linus rushing to catch the ship and beg Sabrina to marry him. This film was a total departure for "tough-guy" Humphrey Bogart as Linus Larabee. Sabrina Fairchild was played by Audrey Hepburn. This was a most enjoyable film, and for both, maybe one of their best roles.

Incredible Classic! Won several Oscars. Bogie plays the stiff shirt perfectly and he is so unexpected for this role. Bill Holden is the perfect play boy. Audrey Hepburn, as always, perfect in whatever she does. Look for familiar faces in this movie in minor roles. Roles so minor that they were not given credits at the time. Marion Ross (Mrs. Cunningham) as a party guest and Nancy Kulp (Miss Jane from the Beverly Hillbillies) as a maid among other familiar faces.Incredible Classic! Won several Oscars.
