Deus Ex is a first-person shooter set in a dark, grim, near future. Gameplay is similar to that of Thief, with stealth being at least as important as racking up a high body count. There is no multi-player mode in the game -- it's just you against the computer. Disease ravages the population while the struggle for the much-in demand antidote "Ambrosia" rages on. Trying to keep order and make some sense of the situation is J.C. Denton, a cybernetically augmented agent of the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition (UNATCO) who is up against National Secessionist Forces (NSF), re-packaged Triads, and the shadowy underground known as Silhouette. The maps are large and require time to explore, with the first arena being a blown-up Statue of Liberty. Each set location is highly interactive with door locks to be picked, security cameras to bypass, and computer terminals for hints and codes. Books and newspapers picked up during exploration provide interesting, moody background, as well as an occasional clue. Buildings and areas of conflict are not always linear and often offer multiple entry points. Various personalities dot the landscape. The UNATCO soldier, the undercover contact disguised as a bum, the poor, hungry kid -- all have different degrees of interaction with Denton. Some will say just a line or two while others have entire black-market scams and try to sell you useful items. Some NPCs initiate cut-scenes, in which they impart important information. The bad guys mutter and hum while on sentry duty, and come running and dodging when the bullet ballet starts. When talk is useless and weapons carry the conversation, there is a mix to be had, from the ubiquitous pistols and shotguns to flamethrowers, throwing knives, and mini-crossbows. Some serious military ordnance can be carried as well, such as rocket and grenade launchers, assault rifles, and several types of grenades (including the Electro Magnetic Pulse grenade for taking out the robotic defenses). Non-lethal means of attack are also available and include tranquilizer darts for the crossbow, a riot prod (similar to a taser), gas grenades, and the tried-and-true baton. A non-lethal approach is appreciated by UNATCO, making for some interesting decisions. You can't carry everything, however, and inventory management becomes a challenge. You'll have choices to make, ranging from items such as soda-pop (useful for a bit of health restoration and bribes) to the weapons you'll need. All sorts of electronics can be found in the game's environments, along with several tools used to manipulate them. Lock picks and micro-tools are needed because brute strength won't always get the job done. Electro fuel cells are required to power your cybernetic abilities, such as night sight and extra melee strength, while new cybernetic augmentation canisters upgrade and vary your built-in abilities. Conversations, mission goals and logs of what you do are available with a couple of keystrokes, making bookkeeping and note taking easier. If you do want to add your own comments, you can type them directly into the standard note section.

An intriguing RPG game of adventure and espionage.
Recently I decided to pick up and play Deus Ex to find that despite its growing age it is still a solid game. Deus Ex is a first person shooter-role playing game that blends the two concepts quite well. The futuristic world of Deus Ex is a troubled one in the midst of an epidemic and its up to you to unravel the cause and discover one of the greatest conspiracies ever! That being said it has a pretty decent storyline. One thing that it accomplishes is giving the player the chance to make his or her own story line decisions throughout the game which can influence the outcome of things further on. Like leveling up in an RPG, you get to level up certain attributes of your character which you choose by your preferred playing style. For example you might choose to increase your ability with ... For example you might choose to increase your ability with a rifle if you normally shoot everything you see, or you may choose to increase your lock picking skills if you prefer to sneak around carefully. So the game really centers around giving players some freedom in how they would like to play the game. I only give it a 4/5 though just because of the standards set by today's games. Very fun though overall.

Best PC Game Of All Time....Classic!
I played this game many times when it came out many years ago. Now, that I'm a grown man, I Remember how great the game was and still is. So, I decided to purchase the game, and play it again and again. If you haven't played this game then you don't know what your missing. Don't bother with the other dues ex series games as they suck and don't measure to the first. Dues Ex, was and is voted the #1 best pc game ever made.I played this game many times when it came out many years ago. Now, that I'm a grown man, I Remember how great the game was and still is. So, I decided to purchase the game, and play it again and again. If you haven't played this game then you don't know what your missing. Don't bother with the other dues ex series games as they suck and don't measure to the first. Dues Ex, was and is voted the #1 best pc game ever made.

The Hype Is Real!
I do not usually write reviews but seeing how Deus Ex 3 is coming in the near future I thought it's about time to give this game a review as it truly deserves it. I have played Deus Ex since it came out in 2000 and still play it regular, it is not like any other gaming experience you will have. What makes it so great, you ask? The storyline: You play as JC Denton a fresh from the academy agent for Unatco HQ in what seems to be the perfect job, going on missions to protect/save the people from a group of terrorist that go by the name: NSF. As time passes though, the government, the police and your job is not what it may seem. The storyline is wrapped around one big government conspiracy to add to this storyline you will make all the decisions, do you save the person from the ... The storyline is wrapped around one big government conspiracy to add to this storyline you will make all the decisions, do you save the person from the terrorist, do you go to the bar to have a drink, do you kill your target or listen to him before killing? Every little decision is yours and will all effect your game-play/storyline, it is your game. To add, the game has a huge ending at which you make the final decision that will effect everyone in the world and there is 3-different game endings. Gameplay: The actual movement is done in first person, however there is upgrades for your nano augmentations and ability's (slimmer to exp) to add a role-playing element. The storyline and puzzles are not quite like other games into the fact, you have multitools and lock-picks or a LAM (explosive)so will you pick the lock, hack the controls to the door or will you throw the lam? Hell, you can even use your GEP Gun (futuristic guided rocket launcher?. The choice on how to open that door is yours but be careful what item you use may be needed this is what adds a large amount of gameplay slimmer to a RPG. Audio: The game sounds just as good as any PC Game today, the sound is unmatchable, wonderful music, every interaction is spoken and the sound effects are so good they have to be seen to believe. Video: Graphics are around the PS2 era, the game was made in 2000 but looks as good if not better then most 2005~ games, the video part will not let you down, far as it's time Deus Ex was the god of all games, it set the bar for others. Overall: If you are not yet convinced, there is a one mission demo and even a two mission demo on the internet so you may try it for free. However keep in mind the demo is only 1% of the games experience. You will not regret buying this game.

Amazing thing, how dependent we get on "modern" graphics. Ten-year-old Deus Ex (regarded by PC Gamer as the greatest game of all time) looks and feels ten years old. But some of our best games are that ancient (e.g. Oddworld, Fallout II, American McGee's Alice), so I decided to give Deus Ex a chance -- particularly since its sequel will be out in the not too distant future. The verdict so far: it's a fun (and even funny) shooter which is holding my interest, but I'm still perplexed as to why it's considered so great. Right now I'm torn between continuing onward with Deus Ex or finishing Dragon Age Origins (a REALLY funny game).Amazing thing, how dependent we get on "modern" graphics. If you have never heard of this game don't be surprised. It had a limited marketing budget but that's not what makes a great game. Despite it's odds it was named Game of the Year by over 35 publications for the year 2000. It is simply put a game that lets you do whatever you want to do. If you want to be a computer hacker and a sniper you can do it. How about an electronics expert who can lift heavy objects? You can run at super speeds or jump 20 feet in the air. The basic premise is that in the year 2052 the economy has collapsed and there is a new plague ravaging the earth's population. You work for UNATCO an anti terrorist organization and you're one of the new nano-tech enhanced anti terrorist agents. Overall it's really a sublime experience ... You owe it to yourself if you're a fan of videogames to play this game. The new one Deus Ex: Human Revolution is coming out this year.
