The very-pregnant Marge--played marvelously by Frances McDormand in an Oscar-winning and career-defining performance--just goes about her everyday business, eating (in nearly every scene), talking to the people in the community, and examining bloody corpses as if no day is different from the next. A multiple murder in the small town of Brainerd, Minnesota--home of Paul Bunyan, as the sign claims--seems to have little effect on her. Yet she has an innate cop sense--she is very, very good at her job and determined to solve the case in her offhanded manner.FARGO is yet another offbeat, highly entertaining film from the Coen brothers (BARTON FINK, BLOOD SIMPLE). The film is nearly colorless; instead, director of photography Roger Deakins washes the screen in the blinding white of the snow, occasionally breaking for the drab grays and browns of police uniforms and winter jackets. Carter Burwell's score further enhances the slow, steady pace of this oddly funny and compelling film. The Coens have once again populated their film with a slew of bizarre characters, with outstanding performances delivered by all, particularly the edgy William H. Macy, the quietly luminous McDormand, the nearly psychotic Steve Buscemi, and the oh-so-cold Peter Stormare.

One of the all time greats
This is one of the all time great films of the modern era. Fargo put the Cohen brothers on the map. This grim (and true) tale is one of a man so desperate to save face that he's willing to risk it all. But really, he is so disassociated from the reality of modern life that he doesn't seem to realize the risk at all. Sounds terribly boring or made for The Lifetime Network, right? Well, luckily for us, the Cohen brothers happened to be behind this. They add a brilliant comedic edge based on the simple nature of a very simple place, with a very funny accent. The transfer of this film onto blu ray is seamless. The grain of the film are exactly as the directors intended. Most people seem to think that movies on high def should be flawless and smooth - robotic representations of reality. THe ... This is one of the all time great films of the modern era. Most people seem to think that movies on high def should be flawless and smooth - robotic representations of reality. THe true art in HD is to replicate the look of film onto a digital screen. Easier said than done, no doubt, but the recent round of Blus have been right on the money. The audio remains quality, although the sparsness of dialog and the open, muted snowy sceens don't require any jaw-dropping audio effects. All in all it's a great redition of a great movie. I never got all the way through any of the extras although there are plenty including a long piece on the accents.

It was always a bad idea
Firstly, it is the Cohen brothers, so everything is always up for grabs! Everything that could go wrong - does! (It 's great.) Great writing coupled with great acting makes this a true "popcorn" evening. I have seen it before and now I wanted to own a copy for yet another one of those "popcorn" evening with family and friends. Another great Ebay value from their trusted source of Ebay partners. One of the best McDormand movies!
No one can beat this movie by the Coen Bros. It still stands up on so many levels, if after so many years. Engaging characters with just the right amount of humor and suspense.

Very good
The regular DVD Fargo messed up on my 4K player then I watched it in the bedroom on that DVD player and it was fine so I think the DVD just need to be cleaned
