King's Field: The Ancient City marks the long-running series' debut on the PlayStation 2. Because the third title in the series concluded the original story arc, this latest incarnation features an all-new storyline and characters. Since receiving a mysterious ceremonial idol, King Lucien IV and his kingdom of Heladin have suffered a string of disasters, plunging the land into decay and ruin. Numerous attempts to return the accursed idol to the Land of Disaster have ended in failure and the task now falls to you -- Prince Devian of Azalin. And so begins your quest in this first-person exploration RPG.<br><br>Despite its unconventional viewpoint, King's Field: The Ancient City offers a plethora of items, weapons, equipment and magic -- staples of the genre -- for the player to discover, buy, and use. Armor can be acquired and equipped to the legs, arms, body, and head of Prince Devian. A cache of weapons ranging from morning stars to swords can also be equipped. That said, items and weapons have a limited lifespan, and will become less effective with continued use. If they are not regularly repaired, they will eventually break. <br><br>Also at your disposal is a host of magic spells that encompass the elements of Wind, Water, Fire, Earth, Light, and Dark. Each element has five different magic crystals that must be found throughout the Ancient City, in order to be able to tap and harness the power of each element for both defensive and offensive purposes. Of course, all these weapons and abilities would be for naught were you able to roam about without fear of being attacked. Standing between Prince Devian and the completion of his quest are 120 different monsters running the gamut from basic skeletons to poisonous globules of slime to man-eating trees known as Reapers. These new features augment the 3D interaction and well-paced story development found in earlier King's Field releases.

A piece of Fromsoft history!
Was excited to get my mitts on this classic, and I don't regret it! Seeing how far the company has come from their KF series is like witnessing history. I am a huge fan of the Souls games and was delighted in revisiting this style of older gameplay. I can't guarantee everyone will enjoy it, but I sure did. Product came in perfect condition, no scratches and all paperwork intact. Thanks!

A non-linear first person RPG for PS2 for the hardcore players!!
After beating King's Field I wanted to rewrite my review to fully express my thoughts about this game. The game's story involves a cursed Idol that was taken from the altar by a king. Your character is the prince who has to return the idol back to stop its curse on the land. King's Field is a nonlinear RPG that doesn't give you any direction as to where you should go next or what you should do. I enjoyed the nonlinear aspect of King's Field. The game sometimes forces you to backtrack after finding a key to that door that once was locked. This backtracking isn't very fun. People with little patience stay away. Pros: Tons of items to collect. You can equip helms, shields, gloves, rings, amulets, wrist ware, and weapons. These items change the way you appear and sometimes give you powers. ... The surrounding atmosphere in the game world is pretty spooky. Some walls are breakable. There are many different enemy types. Cons: The character's controls are difficult to get used to, the turn speed is REALLY slow (an enemy could be attacking you for 4 seconds before you can fully turn around to fight 'em). The combat involves your trusty slash and a magic blast, nothing extra. The enemies are very dumb, most of them will forget that you are there if you move away a little at that point they'll start walking in small circles. You'll see the same environments many times over. The story is weak. BOTTOM LINE: The game is for hardcore RPG fanatics, or fans of the series. Regular non-seasoned players should go with something else.

Great condition, good price, classic gaming!
From looking at the disc I can tell it has been well taken care of. I would love to tell you about how well it plays or looks but my PS2 broke lol. I wanna thank you for selling it for a reasonable price and when I get my PS2 fixed I will play it madly lol.

Dark souls but first person.
Best game on ps2? For me it's one of them. Fantastic pacing and exploration. Right up my alley. The sound track puts me in the mood for just this kind of first person dungeon crawling.

But for the target audience, it is a gaming gold mine!!! King's Field is just one of those niche games. It's slow, unintuitive, hard, and the controls will seem muddy in comparison to other games, but for the fans of the series (There were 3 games before this one, on PS1) or just fans of hard core RPGs, especially first-person RPGs, this is an incredible game. Oblivion this is not, but it never tried to be an uber-RPG. It is what it is. The graphics here are great. Not "God of War great", but they're smoothly done and easy on the eye. Fantastic level design too, with no transitions between areas, and no loading times either! The story is simple, yet superbly done and unique in it's own way. The controls work excellently once you get used to them. Yeah, dual thumbstick controls would have made more sense, but this was before their time, and they would not really have made the game any easier to play. It is difficult, which is great for someone who is sick of easy-ass RPG games. Get;s a lot easier once you really get the controls down and figure out how not to die as much. Delightful soundtrack. The environments in this game really take the cake. The city really does feel ancient, as do it's cultures and legends. BOTTOM LINE: If you are truly willing to give King's Field a chance after reading this, this game is definitely for you.
