Excellent flexibility when playing HD disks
The LG BH100 plays standard DVDs upconverted to HD resolutions (1080i or 1080p). In addition, it plays both BluRay and HD DVD formats. The picture quality is excellent in all formats. Startup time for the player (a problem with some of the early HD disk players) is 30 seconds which is quite good. The menu system is straight forward and easy to use, giving access to change settings such as audio modes and upconversion settings. The quality of the construction of the unit is also excellent. LG BH100 multi disk player
Unit was in excellent shape, just as described. After hook up thru an HDMI cable to my samsung, I tried a standard DVD, then an HD-DVD and both worked great. Next I poped in a brand new copy of "Dark Knight" and the fun began, as in no picture!. After much internet searching, I concluded the "firmware" needed an upgrade to play this one (I tried a copy of "Troy" and it played great). To upgrade this player, you have to burn a DVD with the firmware update and run on the player. After much nashing of my techno challenged teeth, I finally got the latest firmware from LG's site loaded and it finally played Batman! YesUnit was in excellent shape, just as described. LG BH100
This is a good dual format player, although it doesn't play in 1080p unless your TV is 120hz, where most LCD's i have a 46" Sharp Aquos 1080p LCD but it is only 60hz so I can only view HD or Blu Ray as high as 1080i. Other then that I love the player it is easy to use, the remote is nice and easy. Overal I would give it a 7 or 8 because of the limited use for 1080p.

Excellent player incredible value
Most important thing to do first is go to the LG support website, download the firmware upgrade disk image, burn it to dvd, then upgrade the firmware. When i first got this, I tried the 2008 world series blue ray disk and it worked great. Then I tried my HD-DVDs and only half worked. I then tried the Dark Knight blue ray and that did not work. After the firmware upgrade all movies played just fine. I do not have much experience with other blue ray players but with this one, the boot up time is very quick(maybe 30 seconds) with pretty fast movie load times as well. Dark Knight took the longest to load and that was less than a minute for me. Excellent Universal DVD Player
I have many of the now-defunct HD-DVDs, as well as Blu-Ray and standard DVDs. I have too much invested in my HD-DVD collection to abandon it, with 183 titles. I wanted one player that would read and play all of my DVDs. This player does that, and does it well. The player automatically determines the format, then plays the DVD. It performs as well as both the HD only and Blu-Ray only players that I had previously. Like the previous players, this one takes 1 minute or more to read the disc. I guess that is just part of the package with HD and Blu-Ray. One surprise - a bit of a disappointment actually - the LG player will not play music CDs.
