The X-S1 is a super-zoom bridge camera, meaning it has the ease of use of a point-and-shoot compact model, generous features like DSLR-type digital cameras, and a huge lens with manual focus abilities built in, mimicking the functions of professional lenses.The rubberized, black exterior of the Fujifilm X-S1, gives the look and feel of a professional DSLR and creates an easily graspable surface. Its ergonomic control layout allows for quick access to all the functions. This model features a tilting, 3-inch LCD screen that can function as a live electronic viewfinder. It also tilts to allow you to review your pictures in any environment with minimal glare on the screen. You can opt to use the traditional viewfinder on the body for snapping your shots. It has a manually operated 26x zoom lens that covers a focal length of 24-624 millimeters for accurate shots and a minimum 1-centimeter focal distance in super macro mode. The lens features mechanical image stabilization to ensure you get pristine, in-focus images even in the most zoomed position. Among the features usually reserved for professional cameras, this model boasts the ability to shoot photos in both JPEG format and the uncompressed RAW format. This gives you creative control over the final processing of your photos when using a photo editing software on a computer. An ISO range of 100 up to 12800 also ensures a properly exposed shot every time. The camera also features six white balance presets, giving you even more control over the lighting effects of your pictures. With the touch of a button, the film simulation mode allows you to change the overall appearance of your pictures to mimic different Fuji film types such as Velvia, Provia, or traditional black-and-white. The X-S1 can shoot between a full 12-megapixel resolution or a 6-megapixel image in the Low Noise setting for shooting in low lighting without flash. Also included is a Dynamic Range setting that offers five levels of light adjustment ranging from 100% to 1600% to achieve the perfect balance between highlight and shadow. It also has a scene-detecting automatic mode where the camera will choose the best setting for your subject. Enjoy a full 1080p, high-definition movie recording for all your videos with the built-in 2/3-inch EXR CMOS sensor. Using the power of two internal CPUs, it provides powerful video processing within the camera itself. An NP-95 Li-ion battery provides generous battery life, lasting around 460 frames. The Fujifilm X-S1 uses an SD or SDHC card for storage of pictures and movies recorded. An 8GB SDHC card will store between 412 and 11,850 images, depending on the settings used for shooting the photos. The X-S1 comes from the X series of Fujifilm cameras, making it an excellent, highly functional, and versatile camera.

    Still a top contender, in the superzoom class.

    I previously owned an X-S1, and sold it in order to own a DSLR kit. But after a year I really missed the X-S1, and bought another. And I'm glad! These features make it a joy to own: quality construction, excellent focal length range, pro-like body controls, or easy EXR or Program operation if point and shoot style is preferred; great jpeg quality. Film simulations are very useful. After researching various superzoom cameras I believe the X-S1 ranks with the best. Is it equal to a DSLR or MILC with a larger sensor, in performance and image quality? No. But it's a very capable do-everything camera in one package for the traveler or hobbyist. The only negative for me: raw conversion software is hard to find for the EXR processor, and what I've seen is hardly better than properly executed ...

    X-s1

    The Camera arrived Packed very well. The original photos were not revealing of the problems. The model has Lens Droop as many others of this type have suffered from before Fuji fixed the problem. It is not a deal breaker as it does not seem to interfere with its operation. Some scratches on the LCD are also apparent (not in the description). Also not a deal breaker. The photos are exceptional and I am pleased with the overall operation of the Camera.

    Awesome camera for travelling

    We bought this camera in anticipation of a trip that we just completed to Italy. What a great decision! It takes super crisp pictures and the optical zoom range is impressive. The fact that the camera is weather proof turned out to be a great feature as it rained nearly every day of our trip. The camera will take a little practice to get great results, but if you simply leave it in SR mode it works pretty well for most situations. The key is to press the shutter button half way and let the camera adjust focus and light levels, then snap the pic. If your subject is off center and either too light or too dark, first center the subject, then press the shutter halfway, let the camera adjust, then move the framing to what you want while keeping the camera button pushed halfway down, and ...

    The Swiss Army Knife of cameras

    Built like a tank, lovely twist zoom that's smooth, love Fuji's logical and easy to use menu, very good IQ, gorgeous jpeg's, very good EVF, focal range to cover every situation. If you like macro photography, this one really delivers. A great family or travel camera. Have been using the EXR feature in challenging light (evening, shadows, contrast, etc) and this mode really helps with the detail and dynamic range. All around excellent camera.

    Best Super Zoom to date!

    I have a recent model XS1 that avoided the earlier problems of lens drooping and blownout highlights as well as some sensor issues. The XS1 is the best point and shot (but it is really a much more advanced camera and performs like a dslr grant it without having the same sensor). First of all the ergonomics and build of the XS1 are outstanding. The body is made of a strong rubberized material and overall is semi water sealed though not entirely. The camera feels good in the hands and grip. I've read that the camera is bulky and heavy and this isn't true at all. The camera is light considering that it has an over 600mm lens on it. There are numerous buttons on the back and top to easily function through exposure, white balance, ISO, etc. The XS1 is a well thought out camera. The camera is ...
